I do not consider myself racist but . . . .

I do not consider myself racist but . . . .

First I would like to say I do not consider myself a racist person. There is a black family that lives across the street from me in a white neighborhood and you couldn't ask for nicer neighbors. But that being said, I am sick and tired of the likes of Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Oprah Winfrey, etc. screaming something is racist every time something displeases them. There is a TV show named “Family Feud” that is in my opinion is the most racist program aired today. And yet, we never hear a peep about it being racist from anyone. I enjoy the show and watch it almost daily at lunch time.

Here is what I mean. I just finished documenting a weeks worth of shows to confirms what I believed. Out of 8 shows (not often but sometimes I get a chance to see two shows that are back to back) 50% of the contestants families were black. Considering that only 13% of the US population is black that certainly is racist in my book. Is it because the host Steve Harvey is black and controls who is on the show? I don't know but my point is that you don't hear anything about the show being racist from the black community and specifically the race baiters mentioned above. I continue to watch and enjoy the show and sorry to say I'm aware that racism is alive and well in both the black and white community if you just observe. Hopefully some day racism will be a thing of the past.

Can we get this moved to chit chat please?

This is not about black and white photography, nor color photography, nor 'coffee colored people.'

I personally endorse the sentiment that racism should be consigned to history, but there are better places for a discussion of this type, which is an opinion based upon appropriate situation, not the importance of the discussion.

As a kid growing up in the southwest of England it was a very white mono culture. The movie "In the Heat of the Night" really got my attention. I sort of adopted Sidney Poitier as a hero figure.

Faulted as that perception may be, it affected my value system development profoundly.

I just hope we do not allow this discussion to go off track as a result of it being posted in the wrong place.

Sorry I agree. My mistake and put it in the photo section instead of chit chat but how can we get it moved?

It will be moved, eventually, I expect. Hopefully people will be gracious enough to recognize that, and to respond appropriately, and with the awareness there is a time, a place, and appropriate levels of respect that should be considered in what may be sensitive discussions.

I was not a racist. Now I am. Not about white vs anything but I am against every asshole who says:

Your are not 'this or that' so you cannot understand. What I understand is that YOU slam a door in my face so screw you.

Most who say that are blacks, from the US so... I am a US racist.

I once had to write a paper on racism in a US college. I did, from an European point of view*. The teacher, who was black gave me a 'F' for not answering the assignment. This went all the way to dean who rebuked the teacher, had another one grade the paper (A-). Needless to say I switched teacher for that class and ended with an A overall.

It is too easy to reduce racism to a single contrasting color...

* I went to ethnic profiling Jews and Arabs, blacks from Africa vs blacks from the US, Asians Japanese vs Korean, vs Chinese vs Vietnamese... And it was not about racism according to that ass.

Err, can only interpret based upon the content of the post...,

It was difficult to interpret what you were trying to communicate, perhaps if it was more clearly expressed, I (and maybe others) would be be able to understand more easily.

Could just be my problem....
