All as they came off the camera. No PP, no crop, no nothing.

Sorry to say, but your fourth image is "kinda" crabby.
Very nice set, nice little toy!

Thanks, speters. The D7100 with 55-300 is definitely my camera of choice. The downloads show that image quality is not the best. However, I was able to capture a presentable image in the closeups which would not have been possible with the D7100.

Thanks, Collie lover. Don't know what breed, but they were beautiful dogs and they were having a great time playing in the water.

Nice shots Jimjay...why can't you get a good close-up with your D7100...never had any problems myself...never even used the Close-up Mode, just my 18-105mm...?

Thanks, Ron. Problem with the D7100 is that the closeups are not closeups. I have a problem trying to push the D7100 past its limits. The zoom on the SX50 brought the dragonflies and the fiddler crabs in from about 20 feet.

Still don't know why...I take close-ups all the time with mine...flowers, still life, etc, etc...???
If your using the zoom on the SX then they aren't close-ups either...I take mine un-cropped from as close as my 18-105 will focus, no crop needed...?

I can do the same, Ron.....However.....If I waited until I could get that close to these guys with the Nikon, the shots would never happen. Advantage SX50. One can take the shot without spooking one's subject. Image quality may suffer a bit, but at least you got the shot. Or mebbe, next time you're in Fla, you could look me up and demonstrate your technique for sneaking up on them.?????
