Most annoying shoot ever

So another shoot on Sunday. I have my edited pictures, though I'm not sure what to do with them at this point. Lack of communication and all that.

This one will stand as the most annoying shoot ever.
I'm going to go against the norm and not type a long post. I'll just sum it up in two statements and a couple of images.

Most annoying moment of the night: 3 dslrs and 4 smartphones that should have stayed at their seats, blocking my shots and refusing to let me through. Having to climb on top of something, losing my balance and nearly falling.

Most amusing moment of the night: Seeing the guy I suspect they got to replace me shooting from the balcony with a 50mm lens and popup flash. He was doing the shoot, chimp, frown dance all night long.

And the pictures: When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.....

But when I am boxed in and forced to see the event through your smartphone screen....
But when I am boxed in and forced to see the event...

I improvise.
I improvise....

For the next time, try to use some well placed maximum power flash to contain some of the snappy takers that constantly elbow you out of position!

I sympathize with you. I was at a political rally some time back and had the main person in my sights a few times when up goes somebody's Iphone right in my shot. Of course I did get some good shots but my most memorable is one through the screen of a phone and many shots of a tall guy with a cowboy hat getting in my viewfinder.

I guess my question is, if you where "replaced", then why were you there?
Or, we're you both the official paid Photogs?

Well, you did get some very good cell phone picture.. pictures.

Sorry to hear that.
It's the way of the world now. The other day I was walking to my truck from the grocery store. Some dits stopped in the driveway to answer/send a text...
while cars piled up behind her.
Oblivious to anyone in the world but her and her damned texting. It's a parking lot! Park, then text.

And... it's only going to get worse. :x

While in Alaska in June we went to see a National Park Service film (video?).
Some jackass from India holds his damned IPad up at forehead level videoing the presentation.
Much like your IPhone/cell phone shots, but a damned IPad!
I went and got a ranger, she promptly moved the unaware foreigner to the side of the auditorium.

He is likely the guy you get when you call for customer service....

I feel your pain HL. Last year my wife and I flew to Oahu and stayed at our Disney Time-share resort. One night we decided to see one of their Polynesian shows and were fortunate enough to get a front row seat.

I was alternating between her AW110 and my D5000 for stills and video but it stopped no one from stopping directly in front of me to get their own shots.

Just what you want to take home to the rest of the family - pics of someone elses posterior. I hate rude people...

Worse yet, likely customer service at Comcast.

You guys are too funny. I had to have something to remember myself by and that was as close to a selfie as I got.

It's right up there with picture of her taking a picture of me and the *&*! camera chose to focus on a bush behind her, totally ignoring the very nice vista of the North Shore behind her.

Yes, it was on auto, but why the bush?

Hey, you guys are absolutely baby lightweights!
Have you never been anywhere in the world and a bus load of Japenese tourists unloads!!

Or in China, a parasol is 10x bigger than any iPad!

Around our house we call that a "bucking fummer". I'm about 99% certain that anyone 13 and under doesn't have the what-for to translate. :-)

I knew there were some stories out there.

To answer Sharpshooter: I am not paid to shoot for them. Somewhere along the line I became the official shooter. I shoot for other groups from time to time as well.

As for my being replaced. There were subtle hints, but I never have time to think until after the shooting is done.

It happens every day on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco. I couldn't believe the bus driver told the tour guide that they had five minutes to take pictures. But there were three busses behind him. Finally got my Hasselblad set up, but so many people were trying to knock it down, I put my F2AS on my monopod and stood with it over my shoulder, twisting around like the mad slasher.

I have issues more and more with rude people and thoughtless people. If there is a baptism or baby dedication at our church and I have my gear with me I will take pictures for the family. We have video cameras and the family will eventually get a DVD of their event, but no stills unless the family takes them or I take them.

The video camera that is aimed at the baptistry is on a platform and there is a very definite lane for them to shoot that direction. If anyone stands up and is more than 5 feet tall, it will block the video so i usually sit there to play interference for the video crew and with my camera on a tripod, it is still low enough to not get in the video frame. Family and guests are told up front to sit in one section of seats close to the baptistry. It is almost always mommy or grandma that will stand up and walk to the edge of the baptistry with a cell phone, or a P&S and ruin my pics and the video.

there are usually a few songs before services start and during the second song people are encouraged to roam around and shake hands and the like, and that is when i make a point to introduce myself to the family and assure them that the pictures i take will be available to them at no charge. strangely, it seems to make no difference much of the time.
