Question on "Store Original"

When you check the store original box and then click on download does UHH software sharpen the image.

My images seem to look over sharpened compared to viewing in image editors on my computer.

Is this common?

No. I have downloaded a picture I have posted and done a comparison, the files are identical. Not the image, but the bits in the file. UHH does nothing to change the file except prepend an id to the filename.

The only thing UHH does to a photo is to create a thumbnail for display if the image is more than 600 pixels wide or more than 800 pixels tall. Nothing is done to the stored original.

Why do I see a difference and apparently I'm not the only one?

I use View and Capture NX2, CS6, Helicon, Photo gallery and all show a noticeable difference.

Joer, I can't vouch for anything technical but my pics appear to be the same as I loaded them. That's not to say there is no change, and if so, I just haven't seen it. ;-)

These were copied with the snipping toll. The first from UHH store original, the second from the original file.

There is a difference. Its more pronounce before posting.

Subtle, but yes.
The breast/belly feathers is where I see a subtle difference.
It does appear to have been sharpened.

I may have answered a different question than you were asking. The image we see on the web page is certainly resized to fit the 800x600 (portrait orientation) space, and that would include some sharpening.

According to the forum Administrator:

"Store original saves the file exactly as uploaded."
