I've seen bumper-stickers that say "Catch and fillet." I've caught enough in my life. Take the pix and you'll always have what you caught. 8-)

I do keep a few trout now and then. I also keep catfish. Now and then, fresh fish always tastes good. But I HATE cleaning fish, so 99.99% get put back.

Yep, myself also. A few nice pan-sized trout (Brookies for me) fried in a little bacon fat, with lemon on top and onion in the pan, yum. Catfish deep fried. Panfish are fun to catch on poppers, but they're a pain to clean so they go back. Still fun to trick any species to bite   :) . 8-)

Panfish are actually pretty easy to clean if they are the right size. They also taste good covered in cracker crumbs and fried in a skillet.

That is true, and I seem to have a knack for a 10:1 ratio on the small size, and that's good. Gives me excuses to just be out and about  8-)

Nice Bluegill. Had an old timer show me how to filet the sides of the bigger ones, then dip the filets in a mix of flour and ginger ale. When I gave him the disbelief look, he said, "Don't knock it until you taste it". Then, he proceeded to cook the fish in butter with a pinch of salt and pepper. Delicious it was!

Here's another vote for woolybuggers. Trout in the bigger freestone streams here in PA gulp 'em up.
