have a D7100 and I like to take portraits, landscape, waterdrops, etc. I do have some nice sharp, fast lenses for when I am taking some serious shots, but I really want a good lens for those days that I just don't feel like lugging around all my stuff. I know that these super lenses are never going to be as sharp as a prime or my fast lens, but I am looking for a good one for the everyday shots or travel.

So I am thinking: 16-300 Tamron 18-250 Sigma 18-270 tamron or 18-300 nikon (so expensive!)

Anyone with hands on experience with any of these or others I would love to hear.

I really dont have much to compare it to but have been using the Tamron 18-270 as my everyday lens for a long time…I am not a pro by any means but its overall a pretty darn good lens…only issue is lens creep..

My wife and I use the Tamron 18x270 and feel that it does a great job.

I used the Nikon 18-200 VR for years as a walk about lens. As for the lens creep it was a problem with this lens as well, until I found on EBay, an item-Lens Band STOP ZOOM CREEP. The band resembles a large wide black rubber band that stops creep while allowing manual movement. The band came in colors and generally cost about $5.00.

From my several photoclubs: The TAMRON 18-270 is the favorite.

Since none of these is particularly small, perhaps you could simply carry one of your lenses, and get the best shots you can with that lens?

I think we too often try to photograph everything, which is impossible anyway, and miss seeing a lot in the process.

I've used the Tamron 18-270 for several years, recently added the Tamron 150-600. I'm a fan of the Tamron lenses, I think they have gotten better over the years too. I'm not a pro, just like making good images.

My wife has a Nikon 18-200 VR on a D5100 that I feel does an exceptional job. She hates "heavy" but does not think twice about using this setup.

I have used the Nikon 18-200 VR for years as my walk-around lens on a D70, then D5100. I hated the zoom creep. After upgrading to a D7100 body, I purchased the new Tamron 16-300 when it first was released and love it. It is as good as the Nikon with many small advantages (a little smaller, a little lighter, no creep, weather-sealed...). Look for my review over at dpreview.

No super zoom lens is going to be super sharp, but the Tamron is acceptable with great range. And the price is right for the amateur or semi-pro.

I have hands on with the Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 and recommend it highly. For the long end I recommend the Tamron SP 70-300 VC. And, for less than the price of a lens - I can recommend the Sony A3000 with 18-55 lens for $319 at Walmart. With in camera sweep panorama, it can make the 18mm very wide and the Sony 2X clear image zoom makes the 55mm a viable 110mm.

Take a look at the Nikkor 18-105. I have paired it wight eh 7100 with pretty good results and it is not that expensive.

This looks really nice. The thing is that I was hoping for a longer reach like 200 or 300 with good quality. But thank you very much.

Thank you very much. I already have the sigma 18-50 which I have taken incredible photos with, a tokina 50-135 2.8 constant which also is excellent and I have a 55-300 which is ok. I really just wanted to get rid of my 55-300 and get a super zoom for those times, like family gatherings, kids sports, etc, where I am not looking to make equisite photographs, just capture nice memories. Therefor of course I would love very sharp photos but I Iknow a super zoom could be limited and you sacrifice things. However, really wanted to hear from hands on users of super zooms to figure out the best option for me. Thank you again so much.
