So Nikon just announced the new D810 with an expeed 4 processor, expanded ISO range (32 - 51,200), 5 fps shooting, no olp filter, & higher resolution screen. How many of you are going to order it as a replacement for your 800/800e or upgrade from what you are shooting now?

I wouldn't expect the D820 until 2016, along with the D5.

I will be curious to see how many D800 users switch, but I won't. I also don't think there's a reason to consider upgrading from another camera now that is different from yesterday. But if someone is considering upgrading from another camera, like the D7000, and they were considering the D800, then the D810 should definitely be on the list.

Also, " Additionally, borrowing a feature from the recent D4S, the D810 can also now record in the RAW SIZE S format, which will yield 12-bit uncompressed RAW files to help with a more efficient post-production workflow."

I have no idea what that means. :|

This new body is way beyond my means and need, but guessing it will bring down the price of the 800 and 800E? That would be good.

I'd love to have one and a nice wide zoom. I'm gladly accepting gifts at this time. :D

Can't really see the value in incremental upgrades unless there is a particular feature upgraded that caters to your specialty or wishlist.

I don't really understand what that is and does well enough to appreciate why it is a major advantage. Could you please explain it a little? Thanks.

For those interested here is a side-by-side comparison of the D800/D800E and the new D810:

It would seem a no-brainer for those interested in upgrading from a different body like a D7000 or going into full frame. Also the MSRP is the same as for the D800E.
I like the new features/enhancements for the price.

One of the biggest highlights of the D810 is the new and improved shutter mechanism that allows Electronic Front-curtain mode in Live View. Basically, the camera simply starts recording the exposure without moving the shutter and only closes the shutter at the end of the exposure sequence, which completely eliminates shutter vibrations. This is a great feature for those of us that shoot in low light, especially with heavy supertelephoto lenses that tend to increase camera shake at long focal lengths. For me, this is a must-have feature when testing lenses in my lab, since I do not have to worry about shutter vibrations at all. The new shutter mechanism is also supposedly much quieter in operation and there is now a “Quiet Continous” mode.

As I recall when the D4S came out a lot of comment - including on this site - was basically why upgrade. Then a few people get to use the thing and start to point out the advantages it has, and this is followed by a swing in opinion and a lot of upgrades.

I suspect the D810 will follow the same path.
