The transform-hold shift key and drag is probably the best technique. Before I learned that, I was copying to a new picture file created under Edit, then performed image-image size with entering an appropriate number to resize the image.
Can you image the repetitions necessary to cause two images, which overlap to fit? Yes, tansform is the way to go. One thing about Photo Shop, there are often more ways than one to accomplish a task. I can drive a nail with a wrench in the absence of a hammer, but how much better the hammer is!
Be glad you got what you got! I have E-9 and E-10 and I can't get either one of them to load on my confuser.
You could try the "Magic extractor". It is on the Image menu.
Depending on the background of the original it might work to select the background and then invert the selection.

Thanks for the tip. I posted "Kiki and eagle" yesterday. I used Magic Extractor for this and transform to move to eage photo. Not great artistic but this is what photogrphy is ablout for me. Documenting children and grandchildren.
@ MtnMan: I also have the "Magic Extractor" on my PSE 9 software, but can't find anything in my Scott Kelby book that really covers it. Do you know exactly how it's supposed to work? I'm sure I have some images that I'd like to "extract" some things out of! Thanks!
Ah, you point out a weakness of Kelby and Kloskowski's book. They don't seek to explain all of the features. I suppose it would be 2,000 pages if they did.
Fortunately once you know it is there and find it this tool comes with its own instructions. Just go to the Image menu in the Editor and click on the Magic Extactor. It provides the three steps you need to do. Experiment with it.
Once you have the layer with the thing you want you can save it, copy it, and then paste it on another background.
Let me know if you need a more detailed explanation.
There are probably videos on using it on the Adobe site.

Thanks for the info on the "Magic Extractor." I'll give it a whirl sometime next week. Yeah, my PSE 9 software book has a total of 436 pages, including the index at the back of the book. It has been a big help to me though. There is an image that I want to play with, and if I'm successful with it, then I'll post it here for you to see.
The magic extractor tool is so intuitive there isn't much need for instructions, However a tip: modify edges of selection by feathering a pixel or two to avoid the scissors-cut-out look; and/or expand or contract selection so it doesn't carry a fringe along. This expand suggestion may be n.g. when extracting down to single hairs as you might in portraiture. Despite earlier suggestion the image quality will be higher and with more editing available if you drag selection into background as a layer rather than pasting from copy-paste
@ pfredd: Thanks alot! I'll keep that in mind when I try the "magic extractor" method. I'm learning more & more each time I use my PSE 9.
You might want to add a drop shadow to the insert to make it look more a part of the pic
