The 70D is susposedly the latest and greatest for video, and yet several people have had considerable problems with jerky video and eratic focusing. Who among you have taken Full HD video with the 70D and would you tell us how you did it. What lens, what settings, what technique, etc. This seems to be specific, so please only reply if you have experience with the 70D. Thanks!

LF, and if they don't come forward, are you gonna hunt them down and spank them, like the dogs that they are?!

I think most of the 'choppy' video can be accounted to the playback software and hardware. When recording the 1920 x 1080 at 30 fps using the All-I compression, you are drawing a great deal on your system resources. You should have at least a 7200 rpm hard drive to start. Sometimes you get better playback using VLC Player instead of the QuickTime Player. My MacBook Pro handles the files fine while my HP EliteBook 8440P stutters a bit on long files of this sort.

Spank them? No, of course not! Spanking is for..... well, anyway, what I have in mind is really devious. They will be made to use Nikons for a month! Pretty extreme, I know, but I think the situation warrants it! :D

Thank You. Has a particular lens made any difference as far as focusing?

WOW, LF, I don't know. Be merciful! As the punishment should fit the crime.
Now you may have scared them of completely, as they may think you'll make them use a Nikon for a day, just for being late.
You must take into account that Canon shooters are really passionate shooters and my not even SEE the memo untill they get back after many days of glorious shooting!
Also, even just one day of using a Nikon could stunt their growth and bounce them out of the MENSA Society!!

I'm not worried! I'm sure they will all show up now that you have been here. Word is that you have more groupies following you around then anyone else on the Hog! Or is that guppies? Groupers? Anyway, you are popular. They'll all be here soon. I'm counting on your drawing power!

Not much help I'm afraid. Bought 70 d to take photos not video. The only video I took was with my kit 18 135 lens and whatever were the standard settings. Did a 20 second ish video just to see if it works. Played back on camera only no stuttering. Watched then erased. Never took video again. As a test give some idea of an example and I'll try the same with mine. However I suspect the jogger who mentioned the playback pc specification as being the bottleneck is probably correct.

Thanks. I never took video when I had my 70D either. Just trying to help someone else sort out a playback issue. Thanks for your input.

You had me going there for a bit. The only time anybody on this forum jogs is when they see the big brown truck approaching! :D

For the focusing issues, are you using Canon STM lens? This can make a big difference in the smoothness of the focusing during video recording.

No, the person wasn't using an STM lens. I had read that elsewhere but I wasn't sure if it was correct. Can you point me towards any references? Thanks.
