The nice thing about having top grade equipment is that when you take crappy pictures, you know what to blame it on.

And then there is the corollary:

The nice thing about having lower grade equipment is that when you take a great picture, you know where the credit belongs.

That corollary doesn't really work, because the lesser cameras are very capable of taking great pics as long as it is within their capabilities.

Did not speak to "lesser cameras", spoke rather to "lower grade equipment".

In all reality, cameras don't take pictures, people do...a good photographer will take good pictures irrespective of the equipment....a poor photographer will likely take just as many poor photos with good equipment as he/she does with lesser equipment...

Or, conversely, you can always blame the cheap equipment.

That's why I don't have a D800e and the top three Nikon lenses. :D

No, that's called a colonoscopy!

It's where they are probing with top grade equipment where the crappy pictures are coming from.

Student observes his report card, sees a C+ in history, tells his friend " look at the grade the teacher gave me!"
Same student further peruses report card, sees an A+ in geography and tells the same friend " look at what I got in geography!"

That's true in all endeavors, especially in photography.

Actually top grade equipment is cheaper in the long run then gradual updates. I learned the hard way.

The problem with corollaries is that they cannot always be reversed :)
