Spider wrapping a meal

First outing with a FotoDiox diffuser and a set of Kenko automatic extension tubes. I used these with a D7000, SB28 flash and a Micro-NIKKOR 105mm manual lens. I'm still missing some way to get the flash closer to the subject, but it was a fun session in the backyard. All shot at f11 and 1/125.

Four hints for using a FotoDiox softbox diffuser (some may not apply to your SB-28):
1.) Look INSIDE softbox to find a white cloth strip "Velcro'd" to one side. Unzip, and stretch cloth to otherside of softbox to another Velcro patch;
2.) Pull-out & drop-down plastic diffuser, located just above speedlight lens;
3.) Set speedlight to Manual. You can control subject exposure by adjusting speedlight to 1/8, or 1/4, or 1/2 or 1/1 (full power).
4.) Set camera to Manual mode; ISO 200; 1/200-sec at f/16. These settings rarely change.

Thanks for the tips Douglass. The spider was moving very quickly so I was surprised at the number of ok images I got.

Love these! Very compelling, particularly your differing depths of field. #4 is stunning!

Moving your speedlight off-camera will allow you to get your softbox face closer to subject.
Take a look at pages #4 & #5 for ideas: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-32754-4.html

I'm working on getting the flash off camera. I plan on having a bracket in the next month or so.

Third and fourth photos are well done. Sensor dirt/oil is distracting..
