Mine was a Nikon D80 recommended by a wedding photographer 6 years ago. I finally bought one, used, found on Craigslist for $225 with a kit 18-135 lens.
Still shooting with it and loving it. As it turned out the lens is damaged. You can see 2 pieces of plastic inside the lens that affect the autofocus (only when shooting portrait).
I've added a 28-70 lens also from Craigslist, this one is perfect.
Olympus E-500 with 2 kit-lenses.
Why? Because my husband bought it for me for a Christmas present ;-)
Have since move up to the E-5, and am now using that one AND the OM-D E-M1. With the adapter (4/3 to M4/3) for the E-M1 I can use all the digital lenses I have.
Mine was a Practica film camera over 20 years ago, it had a medium zoom lens (I can't remember the size) it took excellent photos but if the camera wasn't held horizontally the lens used to slide in and out. It had to go in the end as the focal plane shutter packed in.

Mine was a Fuji S2. I bought it because the Nikon D100 was on back order everywhere at the time.
The image quality was really good in comparison, but the body was a snail.

Canon
Already had lenses from the film SLR (which was an EOS system.
Why did I go with Canon? Don't remember......

Mine was the Canon Digital Rebel 300D. It had the kit lens and a Tamron 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lens. It was a great little camera.
Sony, because I had all those wonderful Minolta lenses that I still have today  and Sony rocks

A Canon Rebel t4i, because it was to be easier to operate. :-)

A Canon Rebel. I bought it for price. It was a kit at Best Buy that included the body, two lenses,a camera bag, and camera strap. At that time the Nikon camera (body only) was the same price as the Canon kit. At the same time I purchased a Nikon p&s for my husband. After a few weeks using the Canon I realized I hated it. That p&s was taking better photos. I put the Canon in the closet and left it there; I used the p&s.
Then a few years ago I decided I wanted to to go back to a dslr and started researching and purchasing. I took a couple of classes and watched videos and read books to learn how to use my Nikon D7000. I loved it!
Realizing that I didn't really know enough when I bought the Canon, I pulled it out of the closet, charged it up, and took the same photos with both cameras. When I downloaded from both cameras it was obvious the Canon would not even make a decent back up camera. The next weekend I drove to a camera store in Raleigh and traded it for some items I wanted.
I'm not saying Canons aren't good cameras...I know they are from some of the gorgeous photos I've seen. My mistake was not doing the research I should have and buying for price instead of waiting and saving and getting something better. Lesson learned!!
Canon 20D
It was free.

Canon T3i.
My first SLR was a Yashica TL Super. Bought it at the PX in Cam Rahn Bay. Back when I had more hair and less sense!:)
Olympus E-1. Loved the weathersealing and the lens quality.
That was at least 10 cameras ago!

The Nikon D200. I lost a good P&S, and asked a pro photographer friend about the D80. She said it was great, but she had a D200 which she was going to sell when the D300/D3 came out a few months later. She sold it to me for the same price as a new D80, and I figured used metal body beat a new plastic body. When I got a FX body, I didn't use the D200 for six months, so I gave it to a family friend who is still using it today.
