I'm thinking of getting these. My Cactus triggers do not seem to be reliable. Are these the most popular?

I think these are older ones, there are newer ones which are better. I got a brief lesson on them last week at a local camera store.

Yes, and I believe I was told about the "X" which is cheaper.

Gem, I don't know much about the PW triggers, other than the normal std. fare.
Have you looked at a set of Yongnuo Radio Triggers? I have not actually used them, but I have used the Canon 600 with RT trigger. That is the most awesome flash/trigger setup I've ever used or seen. Supposedly the Yongnuos do a simalar job
But you don't say if you're using flashes or strobes, at least I didn't think so. ;-)

The PlusIII units allow you to have up to four groups and turn those groups on or off from the camera. IF that sounds good, get the IIIs. If you just need basic trigger function, save some bucks and get the PlusX units.http://strobist.blogspot.com/2013/03/pocketwizard-plus-x-remotes-break-100.html

My Cactus Triggers come with a TX and RX devices. Don't I have to buy 2 PlusX devices to trigger a remote flash from the camera?

Yes one for the camera and one for the flash. If you want to fire the camera AND flash, you need 3. One for your hand, one on the camera and one for a flash. To trigger the camera you need the appropriate PW -> camera cable.

If you get the Plus X, then $300.

If you do not need the zone control, the Plus X is what you need.

Right now I can trigger 2 remote flashes with 2 cactus triggers. Seems like I'd only need 2 PlusX.

For 2 remote flashes, you need 3 PlusX's, one as a transmitter from the camera and two as receivers for the flashes.

With my Canon 430 in ETTL mode and my Yongnuo 560 in Slave mode I only need 2 cactus triggers, because the signal is send from the 430 to the Yongnuo 560. SO I wonder if it would work the same way for the Pocket Wizards?

Anybody know the answer to that?

As far as I know, the 430 does not have a master mode, only slave mode. If the 430 is sending a signal to the 560, the 560 must be in optical slave flash mode, not IR slave. If that is the case, then, yes the 560 will flash from the 430 using a PW on the 430.

I've been using their dumb trigger, the YN-602 for 4 years without a single shot lost to misfire. I own 12 receivers and 6 transmitters, and often use them to remote trigger my Nikon D700 and D800s. The replacement dumb triggers the YN-603 II cost about $18 per transceiver. I have triggered a flash at the other end of a football field, just short of 100 yards, with no issues.
