Currently I have three Nikon bodies, see my signature line, and want to have a camera with me every day. Way too much trouble to take it into the office along with all the other EDC stuff. Also depending on the weather, too hot or cold, depending on the season, to leave it in the car.

Suggestions?

A simple point and shoot or a small bridge camera.

I sometimes take my D600 to work in by backpack.
I aslo have a Sony NEX mirrorless that is quite light and takes good pics.

I have a camera with me all the time.

It takes excellent pictures, does email, googles any subject, gives the weather, provides directions and maps, GPS, text messages and lets me make calls.

Best of all, it fits in my pants pocket.

I keep either my D800 or D7100 in my truck and I carry my RX-100 on my person. I also keep a tripod, monopod and camera bag in my truck. I don't leave my home without my gear.

Since you are a Nikon guy, I carry a NIkon Coolpix P7100. Its a point and shoot that can shoot in RAW. 12MP I think, but it also allows me to control aperture and shutter manually. Its a few years old now, so they probably have a newer model.

I also have a D800, and aD7000 as a backup camera, but sometimes just don't feel like taking them on short outings. The P7100 works in those situations. I would never carry it into a low light place however.

Thanks, my first thought as it would possibly fit my EDC bag. I'd prefer a DSLR for some versatility and I can't really afford another camera right now.

Thanks, but for me to carry the 7100, the lightest/smallest of the three, in my EDC would require removing more essential gear or a larger bag, neither of which are my ideal solution.

I have an old D50 that I keep in my vehicle at all times, along with a tripod and cleaning kit.

I like to shoot DSLRs but find the cumbersome to lug around day to day, so just in case, I keep a Nikon P7100 in the car at all times. Sharp, tough little camera has come in handy over the years and seems to handle the weather extremes nicely. Here's one from the P7100...

Thanks. It would be a workable solution except for the lack of funds for a new system.

So do I but an iPhone or any phone camera is a good snapshot camera but no substitute for a system camera. have i take good pictures with an iPhone? Yes but, I want to have with me a good system camera for those times when I come across landscape opportunities, etc.

Thanks David. That's what I want to do, but I worry about temp extremes, particularly summer temps, damaging the body and possibly lens. What's your solution for that? Do You depend on the camera bag to provide temp protection?
