Thank you, Jim. I guess the Tamron 150-600mm lens will sometimes get a good shot of insects. I couldn't have got this shot with a macro lens because it was 12 feet high in the tree.

Today, about 1 hour ago, I shot this small butterfly resting on our cherry bud (Bing Cherry Tree). I measured the Bud at 1" in diameter making the small butterfly about 1-1/2"- 1 3/4" compared to the cherry bud.
The butterfly was 21 feet in distance ( I measure this carefully).
I used the Tamron 150-600mm @ 600mm focal setting.
The butterfly fluttered off after 5 seconds. I don't know the name of this butterfly.
I only used the contrast and crop tools.

Very good.

Very good shot Regis, as usual. I looked through my butterfly book, tried to match a picture to your geographic area. I am not sure of ID, but check out Hoary Comma, see if that comes close to matching your photo

You are slowly convincing me that this Tamron lens would be one I would like to add to my arsenal. I do have another lens from Tamron. It is 70 - 300. I have been viewing your pictures you have been taking with this lens and I think from what I have read it will fit on my 7D. Would this be correct?

Yes, this Tamron 150-600mm lens will fit your Canon 7D, because it doesn't matter if your Canon is a full frame or a APS-C.

Thank you, Jeking. I was checking out the Tamron (which is not known for insect shots) to see if it could do a descent job with bug photos and it does, which is a plus for this lens.

Oops - I have a Tamron 18-270 mm lens. It's my "all in one" when traveling. I THOUGHT I had a Tamron 70-300 mm lens

You are correct. The 'Hoary Comma' butterfly is a match to the shot I took. Thank you again for this information.

Your Tamron 70-300mm lens would be good for butterflies. The Tamron 150-600mm lens will not focus closer than 8 feet so I was curious to see if it would take a descent insect shot and it does.

That lens has sure been a winner. It has given you consistent quality as well as allowing a lot of variety including this very nice shot.
