A Matter Of Trust

I listed a T3i plus lenses and filters for sale here on the Hog a while back. Last week Chiya, a new member of the Hog contacted me and said she would like to buy it. I had never sold anything online before and neither of us have Paypal accounts so there wasn't much assurance for either of us that the other one would make good. We weren't sure what to do and since she had only joined the Hog a short time prior I felt I had good reason to be skeptical. Finally, I said What The Heck and asked her to get either a bank check or money order made out in my name and send me a photo of it. It would at least show me that she had the money and was willing to go to the trouble of getting the check. She sent me the photo, I sent her the camera, and 2 days later I had the money order in my hand. She seems quite happy with the camera and I'm glad I took a chance in a situation where I could easily have gotten burned. It's a nice feeling to know that there still people in the world that you can trust even though you have never met and that you can do business with them on nothing more then a digital handshake.

 Maybe it's me, but I truly see the good in people more so than the bad. Just the dedication needed in photography is often more than enough for me to trust a fellow photographer. Again...maybe I trust to much, as I have been burned more than once, but trust I have.

We always hear about the 'bad people' and 'scammers' so it is great to see a little reporting on the 'good guys/gals'. TNmike

I tend to trust people by default. A few people have changed that setting, but only where they're concerned.

Thanks for posting this positive experience. In addition to trust your logic and skepticism created a dxxn good system for the exchange.

I sold a lens to a fellow Hog and and bought one from another and had the same experience a handshake and crossed fingers and hope and both transactions worked out well. You are right- there is no way to know how it will work out and it does feel good when all goes well. ;)

Sent a Nikon FG to a guy on the hog as a 'gift', his was broken and needed repairs, mine was gathering dust.

Never had any news after that. That individual did not log back in that I know of. Not that I am looking either.

Would have been nice to have a simple 'thanks' in a PM.

Always nice when both parties in a transaction are happy.

Awww why thank you kind sir, that expresses my sentiments exactly. You hear so much about people getting ripped off over the internet, So yeah I had to wonder ok if I send this money will I ever get the camera, While the selling price was an incredible deal for what I was getting on my limited budget that was a lot of money, will I get what he says he is selling, Will it even work? But I am very happy to say that the camera arrived in pristine condition, The box had everything LFingar said it would. I am absolutely thrilled with it, and more determined than ever to improve my skills with my new toy.

Hey, congratulations to you and Chiya for being honest and on the same page! That's good stuff. We need more of that, and here on the UHH, we have the perfect forum for that.

I love stories with happy endings. Even more, the fact that there are still people in the world who are not consumed by cynicism and this is saying something considering the fact that every day I go to work I am surrounded by 1500 or individuals with less than stellar records in the voracity department.

So Chiya, when do we get to see some pictures?

Lukan from your posts that I have read on here, you seem like such a nice person so I have just one teensy favor to ask could you please get my name right?

It's CHIYA
not chita
