I read a bit last night about the next version of the D800 - called the D800s. There's no solid information yet, of course, but it appears to be on the way - maybe.
I think this came from Nikon Rumors.
"No low pass (AA) filter (just like the D800E)
Improved software to suppress moiré
Expeed 4 imaging processor
sRAW
Same AF improvements like in the D4s
Improved low light capabilities
5 fps (6fps with the MB-D12)
Price between D800 and D800E - probably around $3000
No firm announcement date yet - my guess is Photokina (September 2014) or CES (January 2015)
It is still too early to mark those rumored D800s specifications with anything above 50% probability. Hopefully I will receive some additional information in the upcoming weeks."
I'll be able to afford a refurbished one in 2018 if I play my cards right...
That is the next likely upgrade to the D800, not that much they can improve on actually, both models are exemplary performers as is.

I brought my D800 as soon as it was available. It was an upgrade from the D700 and I needed the D700 as my primary backup camera to replace my secondary backup which was the D200.
From day one I was amazed at the photos that come out of this camera with my 24-70 & 70-200 lens on it. Maybe the girl is taller or dresses a little better, but the one I got right now is funny, smart and good looking. As you go through life you realize Thigs just have to change just because they can. If my D200 goes on the fritz, I might consider a shift and loose the D200 or have to replce the D700. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the info. I enjoy my d800 and won't look to change it out soon.. The specs of the 800s don't seem like a big enough step to upgrade.

'Whew.... None of these "improvements" affect anything I bought it for.
Almost two years now with my D800 and like earlier comments here I am absolutely amazed at the IQ that comes out of it and it is indeed the very best camera I have ever owned....only regret is that I wish had I bought the e model. I suspected upgrade this year or next as digital camera bodies are just basically computers designed to be replaced every few years. I will be very interested in seeing the evolution of this superb camera line and perhaps tempted to purchase if upgrade v price is significant enough.
I had not heard about that new D800....neato. I think I will wait a bit longer. I have my trusty D700 and just got a Canon Mark III to try out for fun. Spring flowers here I come!

Why not the D800
xls or the D800
escalade?
Seriously, there will have to be a greater change to get me to upgrade by D800E. As for moire, I have yet to see it on my camera.
