Good Morning all

This small owl came in and landed on top of one of our birdhouses near the feeders and promptly blended in with the old apple tree that you couldn't see him from 50 feet away.

I took this at f6.0, S640 at 500mm with a Sigma 150-500 and a canon 6d. Converted from raw only, no sharpening. I did change white balance to daylight, it was shot in auto.

Any comments for me to do this better are appreciated.

Isn't that neat?! I like that you included a bit of surroundings to show us how well it blends in.

Nice one happy sailor. Since you asked, I couldn't resist a little PP. I hope you like it, and hope you don't mind. Great shot!

Thanks to all that commented and yes it is quite small 10 inches tall so I think it definitely it is an eastern Screech Owl.

The Blue Jays came in and were quite upset with it and were buzzing it, now it has moved down to the ground and is just sitting there, seems to be odd to me but I don't know much about birds.

Hi happy salior. I am kind of new at PP (few months or so) but have been helped by free software, that you might find useful. I use FastStone Image viewer (free version). You can download it at:

www.faststone.org

Like any software it takes some getting used to, but the process of learning FastStone Image Viewer (it's much more than a viewer) can be fun (at least the learning was fun to me), and it can make a big difference in the final presentation to your work. I spent 2-3 minutes tweaking your image with FastStone Image Viewer, and I am no expert.

There is a manual (quite detailed) called "How to Manage and Work With Digital Images" that you may find helpful, too. This can be downloaded (free) at:

http://download.cnet.com/FastStone-Image-Viewer/3000-2192_4-10324485.html

Have fun!!

I really like that shot and it's well taken I believe. I love the way they blend in with their surroundings.

Great shot. Nice that he stayed long enough for your shot. Shaws
PP is good but for me a novice to DSLR I'm more than satisfied with your original...but this is why I come to HH, to learn from folks WAY more experienced with DSLR & PP than me.
Appreciate your sharing.
