My old HP C5580 printer has finally gone to that final resting place,(wherever printers go). Not a sign of power when I fired-up this a.m. I've checked outlets, cords, etc. It's been such a faithful printer I hate the thought of having to replace it. It's the 'last of its breed' of the HP line, that will print directly on the printable DVD's. I guess I'll forego that feature because I'm not anxious to buy a different brand. Been hooked on HP for years. Any good, not too expensive suggestions for a good HP, wireless that will do a good job for photos and of course regular printing?

I still have one of those, it's getting old like me! Sorry I can't give any help on a new printer but plenty of people will chime in soon with suggestions!! :|
Check the cord! Cords go bad with no visible reasons....

To Donrent, and ALL:
Thanks so much for your attempt to help. Much appreciated. Earlier I checked both the plug in the printer, and also where it plugged-into the A.C. outlet. They were both fine.
The problem turned out to be in-between these two points, where the cord connects into the black box, (converter box). Evidently the plug worked loose from one end of the box. Working fine, once again. Thanks to all. I know this old 'friend' will expire some day but I try to keep it going as long as it's willing. No other like it available, (in the HP line). Wish I could find a new one somewhere. I'd sure snap it up!

Papa, there comes a time in some men's lives, when even a different brand WIFE is in order, let alone, a printer!
In the mean time, till death do us part!

"Been there, done that" SharpShooter. Lost a wife of 20 years to sudden, unexpected illness, but the Lord later led me to another great one. Been with her for over 35 years. I suppose it will work the same for printers:o)
Thanks.
Maybe you can find another printer like the one you already have on eBay or craigslist. If so, buy it now before your printer does quit, then you'll already have a replacement.

Tried that well over a year ago. The only one I could find was from an individual who must have valued it even more than I do. He was asking $495.00!! I like it, but not that well. :)

I have the C5180, earlier version of the same printer. I love it! Glad you found it was just the cord, replacing it would have been hard. Like you, I've always liked HP but the last 3 printers I bought have all been a disappointment (all wireless for use with the laptop, the C5180 is connected to the desktop, I've never been able to get to to work with my network.) .

Yes, I know what you mean. I had no problem getting mine to work with two other computers when I used Windows 7, (via Networking), but since moving on to Windows 8, it won't connect to the two other computers (via Home Group) method. That's where the wireless is an advantage.
You're right; replacing it will be very hard. I even contacted HP and spoke to them, hoping they might have one in their back inventory that was still available, new, but no such luck. Used ones, if available are usually ready for the repairman, or worse. I contacted the person who advertised their on Craigslist.... sounds like junk. Oh well, as long as mine continues to work I'll keep using it, then move on when necessary. I certainly will no longer keep a large supply of ink on hand like I've been doing in the past. Worthless after the printer dies. Thanks for your input.

The $400 Canon Pro-100, with a $300 rebate, prints on discs. I have an HP 5280 all-in-one that also prints on discs. I love that feature. it sure beats using a Sharpie.

I agree, Jerry, it's a very useful feature, especially if you burn a goodly amount of disks, which I do, both for video and also for music. I sure was pleased to see the printer working again! The converter box that's in-line was hard to get at with the menagerie of wires, etc. behind and below my setup, so it was the last place I checked, (out of desperation) and found the problem there. These old bones find it difficult to creep around under desks, etc. Actually getting DOWN there was no problem, but it took both MY effort and help from my wife to get back UP :-D

That's the biggest complaint I have about modern electronics: wires. Remember the old days, when you just plugged in yout TV? Now the TV connects to cable boxes, DVRs, external speakers, Roku, etc. I try to label both ends of each wire so I know where it goes. I think the best approach is to have a separate room designed by an electronics expert. He would allow for all sorts of wiring combinations and easy access.
