I have the same camera and the same problem. Doing anything with slot 2, other than just overflow, is not going to help performance. But as they say, YMMV, so try that as well. Get the fastest cards you can get ( Extreme Pro 95MB/s ) and dump the raw while doing continuous. You'll get the higher fps, but not for long but it will be faster than with raw.

This is something that really irked me. It feels as if Nikon purposefully kept the buffer size small to prevent sustained high fps.
I have the same camera and the same problem. Doin... (show quote)

YMMV ???

Your Mileage May Vary. Its an old internet meme, from before there was such a thing as a meme. Basically, it means that how much success you achieve with a given solution, may depend on variables not discussed.

Apparently it's an old internet slang meaning "Your Mileage May Vary"
Actually I don't like the use of these acronyms, it's rather sloppy and a bit lazy.

Actually, I think acronyms are very useful and I like them a lot.

In the future I will refer to this as "AITAAVUAITAL"

Hello dsmeltz, acronyms are OK providing everybody knows what they mean, MLYP, this could develop into a challenge.
Cheers,
John

I just figured out the difference between IMO and IMHO. IMHO is used when you are REALLY showing off!

Thank you. I have heard Your Mileage May Vary but never seen it with just the initials before.

I agree, IMO it's just a way of showing and being lazy at the same time, which I why I very rarely use them, here are a few exceptions, JPEG/TIFF etc. Who in fact wants to type,
Joint Photographic Experts Group/ Tagged Image File Format. I haven't included RAW as it is an adverb, meaning the file is RAW and not changed in any until it is processed.

You are right. RAW is not an acronym. So why do we write it in all caps?

What rate do you get, if you dump jpeg and shoot RAW only?

I get 6 frames per second either way. The difference is that RAW slows down after 6 shots (1 second) and JPEG lets me get a burst of a dozen or more (2 seconds) before the buffer fills.

That's all been shooting in large area (24 MB) and fine quality with a D7100. At small image area (6 MG) and basic image quality, I get a 30 shot burst before I hear it slow down a little. YMMV ;) There are a dozen other combinations in between.
