Thanks. Very interesting and I'm giving this lens a lot of thought but like every thing it takes a little time to save up the money. O how nice winning the lottery would be....Rich

Mr. B, I'm not too custom to terms and usage on this forum but I see you have posted I believe that you use a 7D and have posted several lens next to you profile, is this so? I'm wondering if you can use an extender like a 1.4 or 2 with this lens. I understand you might lose a stop or two. I'm waiting to see what the new 7D Mark II will have that's rumored to be coming out before I commit to a new camera and possibly this lens. How do you like your Macro lens?

Hunter Lou,
From what I gather both the 1.4 and 2.0 tele-extenders are compatible with the Canon 100-400mm lens. I do know that with the 2.0 extender focus will be manual. I never use an extender so I am not a good source of information as to performance. You will lose a stop with the 1.4 and, I believe, 2 stops with the 2.0. At 400mm this lens is already at 5.6.
As far as the 100mm macro lens goes I like it very much. You will see many excellent reviews of this lens on this site or on an internet search.
Hope that helps.
Mr. B

Hi all and Hunter Lou 1947, I took a few test photos a few days ago using the Tamron 150-600mm len. The last few were taken with a Kenko 1.4 extender, and Tamron 2X extender. I had slower focus with the 1.4, and had to manually focus with the 2X. But, the lens performed well, and took some really good photos of my test subject. I've not had the chance to photograph birds in flight using Al Servo. I understand some people have had focusing problem in this mode. Not knowing what camera Hunter Lou is shooting with makes it difficult to advise him about this lens. But, using the current model of the 7D this lens is worth the addition. If your looking ahead to the 7D II, you may want to get this lens now if your shooting DSLR, to practice with it. Then look into the new 7D II. I read on Canon Rumors, the body may be announced this Spring, but not available until late Summer. I did notice while watching the Olympics last night several photographers with "white" lenses, shooting with cameras with the logo blocked out black. This was looking at the coverage at the ice rink, and Alpine Run.

Thanks for the info Bill. Will keep checking. I'm definitely going to make a major camera and lens purchase this year. If you are going to waste your money and time on less than great captures then you might as well throw your time and money down the toilet. Like one other said here on this forum "you get what you pay for". I want the better quality.

Look up my screen name, which is my real name, and location. You will a list of my posts. Check the one listed as "....Test shots" and you will see the shots I made in the backyard. They were moved from the "general" forum, to the "Gallery" section. The first image taken is at 150mm, and the last two are at 600mm with a 1.4 extender, and the last with a 2X extender. The series is of the markers across from my house, marking a gas line. They are about 75 yards from my door. The photos were all taken using a Canon 7D. I hope this helps.

The Thread you are looking for is: Test shots of my new Tamron 150-600mm lens. Even if you just put in the search box Tamron 150-600mm Lens, you get a list of all the titles with that name in it. My Thread was posted Feb 14th. In the Photo Gallery section.

Most likely, the 7D MII would not be able to autofocus with that lens and a TC attached.
