They will probably announce it, and the specs, in the next two months, but with Canon it is possible that they will announce it but that it would not yet be available. May be close to price of full frame 6D. Right now, in LA, you can get used 7D for about $700-750. Great fast camera built like a tank.

One more thought. Do not assume that price will drop with new model. When new 24-70 and 70-200 L lenses came out, models II, there were so expensive that the price of the model I, used, actually went up rather than down. They still sell for a premium used. You can get really good deals on camera right now.

Canoe, the 7 and the 70 are completely different model lines. That's why one has two digits(xx), for the consumer line, and the 7(x)is a single digit, representing the semi-pro/pro-sumer line. Then the #1 series is the pro line.
You could be right, but if so, the 7 has gone backwards! ;-)

As you state, they are two completely different lines aimed at 2 different groups. I assume the overall construction of the 7D is superior to the 70D, but going to Canon.com and comparing the specs the 70D actually comes out on top in a number of areas. I have a 70D and my understanding is that it is an upgrade of the 60D, not the 7D, just as you already implied. Of course, I've had it about 2 months and I'm already looking at the 6D. Dang photography bug!

The 70D has the significant advantage of being newer, which is probably why it wins with some of the specs.

Yup, that's the way it usually works.

The 70D is apparently a great camera, great reviews, especially if you like to shoot video, has all of the latest bells and whistles. The 7D is fast, built like a tank, sturdier than the 70D, and at this point it is way cheaper. Just depends on how you want to use the camera. Both will take great images and the 70D is probably better for video. Both crop sensor.

LF, as you mention, I wouldn't be surprised if the 70 comes out on top of the 7ll as well. The 7ll will be built as a fast sports camera. You don't buy fast for it's low noise, high MP etc, etc,(though I'm sure that will all be good as well), but because it will probably shoot 10 fps and focus lock at lightning speeds.
you're right, the 7 is more rugged. The 7 body frame is made out of magnesium, vs aluminum for the 70 and has weather sealing. And the price will reflect all that! ;-)

Doesn't Nikon usually have refurbished models the next day after it's released? ;)
