Prank turns into New Nikon D5100. YES!
What a wonderful surprise! Have fun with your camera!
Congrats and talk about a Happy New Year for you! Don't discount the kit lens, it will serve you well. My order for extra goodies would be the flash (sb400 a great starter), the 55-200vr (I think a better bang for the buck than the 55-300), a 35mm 1.8 for indoor low light w/no flash, and yes, eventually a 10-20 superwide zoom. Then since bad habits happen , go for a second body (always nice to have a backup) some fast glass like a 2.8 70-200 (portraits, sports, indoor gyms) and by then you'll probably have 2 or 3 different bags/backpacks depending on the days need. I say no rush at all, you've got enough right now to get some fabulous images. Just shoot, shoot, shoot!
One great accessory would be a copy of Dave Busch's "Guide to the Nikon D5100." An invaluable asset to have and learn from. Or "D5100 for Dummies."

My sister and husband tell me that my 9yr old daughter spilled fruit punch all over my bedroom carpet and it won't come out. I go up there to find a Nikon D5100 bundle, tripod, monopod, remote, sd card, and 2 yr unlimited warranty all layed out on my bed! I am so happy and excited!
Looking for suggestions on accessories, lens, etc....
I'd like to get an external flash, and lens cover soon. In the future will buy a better lens than the standard that came with it.
I'm open ears?
Thanks!

For the near term, consider a flash, Nikon flashes are great, but a bit pricey. You want to get the most powerful flash you can afford, as you'll find less powerful flashes, especially when you start bouncing and using diffusers will be underpowered for the task at hand. If the Nikon flashes are too rich for your blood, don't overlook aftermarket flashes like Metz, Nissin, and Sunpak. There are also less costly flashes from China that some report to work well, but do research before you buy. Also consider a cable release to make taking the trouble to put your camera on that new tripod worthwhile.
It's a little bulky, but my 28-300mm lens hardly ever comes off my camera. It gives excellent results and covers just about everything I need. I did buy a 10-24mm wide angle lens to complement it for vacations and a 50mm prime lens.
There are many great lenses out there. I would suggest reading Ken Rockwell's reviews on them before making your decision. Also, I understand that you can pickup used lenses from Aldorama and other places for much less than brand new lenses.

Congratulations, I agree with the extra battery comment.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much, just don't spill juice on it.
Just one example of what the D5100 can do. No flash or
tripod and the only light came through the windows.

Definitely get an Extra batter, as I went to photograph todays fantastic and last sunset of 2011 ... and click nothing ...thank God I had a spare battery or I would have driven 20 miles for nothing ... zip ... zilch ... nada!!! But because I did, I did.
One of the ones I didn't lose because of a dead battery
