I am interested in taking Wedding Photographs. Any suggestions as to what camera/lens I need? Also how do I keep the camera battery charged for the entire wedding which is about 3 to 4 hours?

70 to 200mm and a 20 to 35mm for large groups, you will need an extra battery, make sure you charge both of them the night before.

Make sure those lenses are at least F2.8, (Very important)

i have a canon 70-200 lens with image stabilization and a 17-55 wide angle lens...they both worked great. the 70-200 is great for portraits and just sitting back out of the way taking pics of everyone. The wide angle is great for the ceremony and bride getting ready and reception. I also purchased recently a 50mm 1.4 lens...a little tricky to use but great for portraits....just don't let them move!!
and don't you move...a little touchy but when it's on, clear as a bell!

Don't understand what the 50mm lens has to do with the movement of the subject.. put the shutter speed at 1/200 or even 1/125 and there should be no movement..

my sugestion is to find a reputable professional wedding photographer in your area and ask if you can be his unpaid assistant for awhile to learn the ropes. Wedding photos are to important to leave to no offense meant but poorly equiped amatuers. Next to the birth of a child this is the most important day in a couples life. There is no second chance. The pictures taken that day will be shown on their 50th wedding anniversary. There is a reason its called PROFESSIONAL wedding photography. Just because I drive a car doesnt make me qualified to drive in NASCAR, just because I own a camers doesnt make me qualified to compete with professionals. If you truly want to do wedding photography then invest in the training and equipment. I am sorry if this might have come across harsh but it needed to be said. And no I am not a professional wedding photographer. My dad was and seeing all the garbage he had to put up with even before the days of digital, I want nothing to do with it. When I get married I will hire someone whose livelhood depends on his doing good work. :!:

I am a working pro who specializes in weddings, and all I use (same with my asst) is an 18-135 lens with IS and I get it all without a lens change. Been photographing weddings since 1972. Instead of equipment, you need to worry about getting quality pictures documentating the Bride and grooms Special Day. Always alert to that quick kiss or look. It is a lot harder than it looks.

MMM, as a pro, who go into a wedding with out back up equipment nor a battle plan to get those shots. But have an assistant, interesting!
