All of these camera numbers drive me crazy.... canons... they start with a number and letter.......nikons start with a letter and then a number.......pentax they start with a letter then they go down.....the lower the number the better the camera...in between they add roman numerals, hyphens ...... ,,,, xxxx- yyy's and zzzz's then more dots and dashes........They all hype.....I went to the camera shop (I wont mention their name but it starts with creve) and looked at a 7d (good bif and wildlife camera) the idiot tried to sell me an oly...I don't want an oly I already have a pentax that I hate.....He said the 7d is heavy, old, and has a lot of buttons......I said that's what I want. (It has to be a great camera it's been around for 5 years and has no replacement) He then tried to sell me a canon 70d..... it's a plastic piece of shit......I then asked them if they knew about the new tamron 150-600...........they had NO FRICKING idea.....I'm done with the local idiots......... their pay grade isn't much above an $80.00 p&s......I may try Schillers...if I don't get a better response I'm going to B&H or Androma.

Thanks for listening

Don't listen to what that idiot said about the 7D. I bought a 7D a few years ago and I love it. It is such a good camera that the price has not dropped since it was introduced. It is also the only camera in the Canon lineup that has a 100% view finder. I wouldn't mind having a full frame but the 7D is a great camera. I wouldn't trade it for any camera that is currently out there.

1, JC, I did the same thing and the idiot tried to sell me a Nikon!!
Maybe he didn't see that I have Canon, in six in tall letters, tattoed on my forehead!! (in school, the kids called me billboard head!)

2, JC, you gotta admit, that does sound a little like an old trench-coat!!

Good luck with that 7d.

I have 2 7Ds and I don't plan on going to anything else for a long time. I have decided that this camera does all I want and/or need and until something really better comes along it is what I'm sticking with. I want to learn to make this camera do all of it's tricks before I move on. That's my sTory and I'm sticking to it.

Whenever you go to buy a new camera/t.v/bluray player or laptop some spotty little oik seems to think if you are over 30 years of age the you are an old fool.
No wonder internet shopping is the way to go. When I bought my last laptop the sales person asked did I really want that model as it is ( was ) quite hi spec. So I looked at him and asked if he used Adobe photoshop. Then he said that my choice was a good one.

I've always said that camera companies have to hire a reputable company to come up with names for their equipment. How about lens names? Sooo many letters.

JC56 Go to the Canon store on the internet and look at the refurbished. Just as good as new if not even better since it is completely checked over better then a new one and the price is a lot less. Many here buy refurbished as I myself bought that 7D myself refurbished last year at quite a bit of a savings plus you get the warranty as a new camera. I have no problems with mine at all and their service is very good....Rich

As I see your rant as not about the actual camera, but about how the camera store hires and trains its people. Brick and mortar stores, mom & Pop stores and local owned stores always complain about internet sales and competition. This is a convenient cop out for their poor service, training, and customer relations. What really happens is each of the camera companies offer different rates of markup on their cameras, thus the camera store offers a different rate of commission on the cameras. So, when you walk in the guy behind the counter will try and guide you to the camera with the largest commission paid to him. In this case the Olympus. It a good camera, has all the bells and whistles will do what you want, has its own lens lineup (which keeps you with the brand) you should be happy, and he make maximum commission on the sale. But, you know what you want, and its a Canon 7D, and you told this guy before he started on the Olympus rant. So, the store lost the sale of the 7D, all future lens sales, other gear, and the state lost the sales taxes, since you order online. In my State, Louisiana, shipping costs, if charged, is incidental compared to sales tax of 9.5%. I just bought a new Tamron SP 150-600mm lens, sold everywhere for $1069.00 if bought in Louisiana, I would pay an extra $101.00 for sales tax. From B&H, I would just pay $1069, for the lens and get a good glass protective filter for $99.00, and the guy on the phone knew all about this lens, and the filter.

The 70D may be mostly polycarbonate, but its a solid camera with some great features. You'd be hard pressed to tell it wasn't a magnesium shell just from holding it. It is far from the piece of sh&t you suggest it is. In fact in a few significant ways its superior to the 7D. Having said that the 7D remains a fine camera although its getting quite long in the tooth. Why was the seller trying so hard to to have you buy something else?

I bought my Canon 7D refurbished through B&H but the refurbishing was done by Canon. It was a great deal! The camera is rebuilt from the ground up & gets all the QC checks (not just spot checked like new production).

I saved a bundle on it & got a GREAT DSLR to boot! In hindsight, I wish I'd bought my 5D MKII refurbished.

7D is GREAT! Bought mine from Adorama as a refurb by Canon. NO Problems! Works great. I use Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM and have a Canon 300mm f/4.0 L Prime IS USM. Looking at the Tamron SP 150-600mm with IS and It's version of USM. They are using good glass now and the build on the lens is solid. Really looking forward to using this lens.
Stick with the 7D or wait for the 7D Mark II @ 10 fp vs 8 vp.
Either way your gonna love the Camera you choose. Go on You Tube and check out your reviews. Best of Luck!

Call Canon - if you need any info on a particular model - they will supply the correct information.
Refurbished models are a great way to go.
