I need some suggestions for a travel tripod

I have a main tripod that I'm really happy with but it's just too big to travel with so I'm looking for a tripod to pack in a cabin bag. My main requirement is minimal size and weight but I need it to be able to mount a 5D mk3 with 70-200 attached. I'm not too bothered about it not extending to full height - after all, we're in compromise territory here. I've done a bit of research and see that "3 legged thing", a British make do a range of tripods that look suitable and I'm really quite tempted. Incidentally, I see that the esteemed B & H stock 3 legged thing.

So, are there any other suggestions that I should consider?

Thanks as always.

Check out the "Doclica" series at Costco. I have the Proline. A very good tripod for the money. Lightweight and sturdy enough for most large bodies and lenses.

Steve, thanks for the suggestion though I see that the Doclica folds to a length of a tad under 24 inches which is going to be too long I'm afraid. Thanks again, Bob

There's another Dolica that folds down to 12 1/2 inches.

Thanks OddJobber, that's the sort of thing I'm looking for and at a great price. Just out of interest, do you have one? Cheers, Bob

The Dolcia only supports 15 lbs ... Might be a bit much for the gear you would put on it,. Plus being an aluminum alloy, it won't damper vibrations as well as a Carbon Fiber model will...Price is low though...

I agree though at $80 v $600 it is quite tempting and enough of a difference to put up with the odd vibration. As I mentioned, I do have a "proper" tripod so this would be for just occasional travel use.

Only problem I see is getting it shipped to the UK.

Then yours isn't the one that was hyperlinked to...Yours has an even lower load capacity, only 13 lbs. The tripod needs to be able to support at least twice the weight of the camera/lens combo that can be mounted to it. With the camera body & lens the OP is using, the weight is around 5 lbs. Meaning that he would be borderline. If the OP were to use a heavier lens,it may not be enough. Better to err on the safe side... I went thru several tripods before getting a quality one... Learned the hard way...

Bug, are you looking for new, or will you consider used as well?

Good suggestion. Used will save you some bucks, just buy from a reputable site...

I have a Benro C2692 which folds to less than 17" including the ball head and supports anything I own including a Canon 5D MIII with a Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8.
When I really want to travel small and light I have a MeFOTO A0350 which folds to ~12".

The Benro A2692 (in aluminum) might be your choice if looking to save a few $. You can detach one leg of the Benro and combine it with the center column for a monopod. The Benro extends to a little better than 64" and supports over 26 lbs while weighing 3.85 lbs w/ballhead.
