Question: Why keep the personal exemption?

The tax code should be completely neutral with regards to attempting to influence personal behavior.

It would be the only regressive hold over in the code to protect the working poor, if you had a flat tax of lets say 20% with a personal exemption of $10,000 a family of four would not begin paying taxes until their income surpassed $40,000... I think that some consideration could also be given to filing status, but that gets kinda tricky, a single working mom or dad for that matter may be deserving of a larger exemption than a two income family, but like I said that is tricky because you get back into the marriage penalty.

I don't know what the current situation is for families, they may start paying taxes before currently but you also have to consider that all the subsidies built into the code would be removed like Barbara's child credit... the exemption could be higher or lower to make it work.

Unemployment is down only on paper. It's a numbers game. The U.S. credit rating was dropped for the first time in history. Governments meddling in what should be left to the private sector has increased. Government surveillance on it's own citizens has increased. etc, etc, etc.

I keep hearing the Beatles "Back in the USSR" in my head.

Yeah, but I am sure that does not count.
And what is the problem with New York City. How do you put NYC in the same category as Detroit. This is the greatest city in the world. More people visit NYC for vacation than anywhere else in the world.

Now that the dunces have put their 2 cent's in ( and you knew that was coming! )
Retardlow, ole surg and their ilk have the same opportunities as everybody else.

They in their "Progressive " thinking, should realize that equal opportunity NOT money is what moves an individual ahead.

Most truly "rich " people today started out in poverty, Said "let me outta here and never looked back". It doesn't matter what color you are, it's YOUR perseverance that counts.
Look at how successful new immigrants can be! They make it happen.

The "poor" have had 50 + years of help and $21 Trillion dollars throw in their direction only to have the "I'll help you democRATs" take the bulk of it for themselves.
The cities are in worse shape and more dangerous than they were 50+ years ago. WHY, WHY, WHY?

Who has controlled the cities for 50+ years , you got it, the democRATs.

It was NOT the republicans or independents.

This would be laughable if you weren't being manipulated so neatly by rich republicans. As it is, it's just pathetic.

Another tabloid but they basically have some facts right. People who have used up their unemployment benefits are no included in the number of unemployed. As I stated before it's just a numbers game. If the benefits are extended then the number of unemployed will increase due to people filing for benefits. Not in Obama's best interest. And the only person Obama cares about is Obama.

Poor Poor Richard, you just don't understand the policies of your president and the party that you hold in such high esteem... lets break this down shall we?

The rich get richer, exploding under the Obama administration, why you might ask? How about reading and learning of the monetary policy of the current administration, how about you learn about the corrupted triad of the FED, Wall Street, and the US Treasury.... Why with the FED tripling our money supply is lending so tight in this country, where is all the promised growth of such a liberal loosing of our monetary policy... Do you know what both FED policy and democrat legislation has done to keep that money off the street? Do you understand that democrat policy is destroying community banking and that the To Big To Fail Banks that were supposedly reigned in by the dems have been anything but and pose an even greater threat to our economy?

Poor Poor Richard, why not study a little bit rather than toeing the democratic line.

I wish I was a "RICH" anything!

I finally went to college at 55, not like the perpetual student of the 70's.

I came from a poor, large family, failure was never accepted as an excuse.

I was never " a victim" and "Pity parties " were never acceptable.

All these liberal rectums, want company in their misery, the more the merrier.

They have NEVER done anything to build a person or group up, just "Ah, you poor thing" attitude and you can't do anything with out us propaganda.
