Reminds me of this girl I photoed in college. She was HAWT. If I was not engaged to her friend I'd have gotten with her. Anyway I asked her to let me photo her several times and she was not gonna do it. Then she calls up and wants to bring her mom over to show me a dress [[new, handmade circe 1800's Sunday-type dress.]] Her mom made it and wanted images of it-the thing fit her daughter.

We are sitting there talking and I am mentally drooling over the daughter when her moms says "Don't worry about making xxxx look good-you don't even need to get her face in the images as she has never gotten good pictures."

Daughter agreed.

We shoot and the daughter and I end up shooting *many* more times together because, like I said, she was hawt.

No Olan Mills or Glammer Shots crap for her...real photography, real beauty.

So for the OP...do the best you can and find the beauty in this girl.

Don't even respond to dumb comments like the momma made.

This is *her* time and your time to shine her up a bit.

Remember-beauty is only skin deep. Ugly goes right to the bone and her mom sounds like she has a lot of fugly inside her clawing at the backs of her eyeballs.

You are going to take senior portraits--
The mom of the girl you are going to photograph says "make her look like (in my case) Julie (MY daughter)"
Ummm this girl looks nothing like my daughter...(well she could if she weighed 40lbs less, had dark hair and..well you get the idea)
I just have no idea what she is "looking for" with that comment/ request.
How do you respond to that type of "request"?

I wouldn't sweat it. I'd just do my best to set up "slimming" poses when possible and do my normal job. If the woman's head is on right and she loves her daughter, she'll be happy and see her as beautiful. If not, you can't do anything about it anyway. Right now, you are seeing your daughter as more appealing than the other because she is your daughter and you have certain expectations. I mean, there are standards we go by, but, I like a little extra chunk on a girl myself, so I might not pick your daughter out of a lineup, not that I would be so lucky as to have that choice. :-)

Try, "I'll do my best to bring out her natural beauty. She has some lovely features that her sister would die for."

Hi Dria, You know paintshop has a tool called "thinify." Might be exactly what you need for that customers daughter. It'll knock of quite a few pounds faster/better than Jenny Craig...LOL...
