Are there any leak-free AA batteries?

I had a Magellan meridian platinum gps unit, think I paid around 200.00 for it.
I left the batteries in it over a winter and summer in a storage building.

When I found it, the batteries were leaking so I filled out the form and sent
it to rayovac along with an advertisement for the same gps.
Mainly to show what model it was.

By this time that model was obsolete and the only ad I could find was
on a ridiculously high priced site at about 700.00.
I figured they would shop around and find it cheaper and base replacement on that.
I didnt hear from them for a few weeks so I called them, the guy said they had sent
it to magellan for repair but was told it could not be fixed.

He told me they would send a check out soon, a few days later I was shocked to get a check for over $700.
They will repair or pay for new item as long as the batteries aren't past the expiration date.

My point is this; Don't believe everything you hear/read. In the case of batteries leaking, while I don't feel that Rayovac, Energizer or Duracell would argue over replacing a damaged flashlight, were a $500.00 camera damaged in the same way, they might argue the point

Rarely have I had an alkaline battery leak, with the exception of Panasonic. I have had Duracell batteries and don't recall having one of them leak. Based on Consumer Reports testing I have stuck with Duracells based on how the others do in testing... Rayovac don't last as long. I do not understand the part about them becoming acidic. When I worked in a power plant lab, they used to bring us equipment that had alkaline batteries leak and corrode, and we found that it was easiest to clean the corrosion out using a weak acid, usually dilute phosphoric acid.

Recently I have had Duracell batteries leak, one quite a bit. These were in a radio headset. Dates on the batteries were 2018. Have to eat my words I guess....
