What do you take on a road trip?
I often finding myself packing every piece of gear and gadget I own when on a road trip for a couple of days. That makes for quite a lot of gear! I don't want to leave it in the car overnight, so I end up packing 5 or 6 bags into the hotel room, and back out in the morning. I need to consolidate a road pack to accommodate my needs. What do you guys pack for a 2-4 day trip?

Tooth brush, change of underware. Thats all I would need for a 2 day trip.
Sony RX-100, small "travel" tripod, polarizing filter, ND filter, spare battery, lens brush and charger.
My wife has helped me "invest" in lightweight and washable travel clothing like Exofficio. I can get everything I need for any length of trip in a 20 pound carry on.

I am really interested in some answers to this age old question. Wife and I are going on a 4 day trip soon with the least amount of baggage that we can get by with. We always pack much more than we really need or use.

In all honesty forget trying to get your wife to pack less. Don't fight battles you can't win. If in fact she packs less and as a result doesn't have her favorite whaterver 20 years later she will still blame you and she will pack even more on every trip you take. Trust me on this I have personal experience to back this up.
When we are not packing a 20 pound carry on, we go big. We use a 34,000 pound motorhome. It has an entire cupboard dedicated to photo gear. It even has a power strip for chargers in the cupboard. For clothes there is a closet and 12 drawers.

Now that is the kind of baggage I would like to relate to.

It's been a lot of fun. We've had it ten years and put 100,000 miles on it in 46 states.
In January we will drive it from near Seattle, down the Oregon coast to Arizona for a few weeks. Then we'll drive to Hilton Head, SC and on to Disney World for spring break with my charming and brilliant granddaughters.
Yes, I take too many pictures and video clips everywhere! I'll need another external drive for that trip!

Yea right on the Underwear. Actually depending on the trip is the amount of gear. If it's just a road road trip for pleasure, then just my two boxes with there lens. If it's going to be an photo trip with inside shooting, then it gets extensive with lights, tripods and the video gear. Sometimes more then a steamer trunk. But generally just two cameras and three or four lens. Esp if its outside pictures.
Just the kitchen sink.
I leave everything else at home.
Also a little TP.

Wife, dog, water, camera, cell phone! Oh yes, some extra TP for those emergency moments.

depending on the destination, I take my D-7000 with an 18-270 on it and a 10-20 sigma. For long shots I have a 50-500 sigma that I take if needed. Besides that , extra memory cards, charges, batteries, flash, batteries, filters, pocket sized external harddrive.
It does not matter for there's always gonna be that Damn I forgot such and such .
Camera equipment is like a loaded gun, better to have 1 and not need it then not to have 1 and need it.
Wifie and I have it down to 3 carry-on bags - 1 each for cloths & 1 for her meds & make up + my tripod, a medium sized camera bag that has the extra camera, lens and assorted "can't do without" assessors.
I have solved the problem if where to keep extra batteries and cards with Optec pouches for each on my camera straps.
Good Luck & Post your captures when you get back.
