I live in Southern California (San Diego area). Why are there no retail stores where I can go to check out the Panasonic Lumix DSC FX-200?

I'm pretty impressed with everything I've read about it, and am thinking about selling my dslr gear. I am just a hobbyist. Should I be concerned that it can only be bought on the Internet?

Thanks for any input on this!

I'm pretty sure you meant the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200. I don't think you will find that camera in many local places unless you have a bigger local camera store. I can't find find that one here in Tucson either. Oder it from B&H photo or Amazon.

I have bought a lot of stuff from staples. If they don't have it they will find it for you and match the lowest price. They have great service and return policies. I've been very happy with them for the last 10 years. Of course I just live around the corner from them and they all know me by name:) I live in a very small town with no camera stores whatsoever.
As far as ordering online, Adorama and B& H Photo are the best known and have very good service, etc.

Vick, I would NOT be worried at all.
I've been a big fan of photographer Dave Hill. He does amazing stuff with a Lumix. Check him out.

I live in San Diego County too & have found that Fry's (at least the one in San Marcos) has a large selection of cameras. Have you checked out if they have the FZ 200 or will order one for you with no obligation to buy?

There is no information on the model you are describing. Why do you want to trade down? Spend your time using what you have now and learning how to use it.

There are two popular types of cameras: DSLRs and non-DSLRs. Buy the Lumix from somewhere that has a good return policy. Use it exclusively after you get it. If you don't like it, send it back. Or, keep it longer and sell it on ebay if you're not pleased.

From my experience, nothing compares to a good DSLR.

As for buying on the Internet, that's how I buy almost everything. It beats driving 35 miles into town and back.

I have always believed that good tools are half the job ...so why would anyone downsize ? Learn with what you have and you will not be sorry in the long run .

You are not far from Los Angeles, there must be a ton of shops there.
