Hey hogs. I was given a gift to make a 20 page 8.5x11 photo book. I shoot a variety of things but mostly nature/landscape and travel. Any ideas how to organize my best work to fit into 20 pages? I have traveled to more than 20 countries and have shot more landscapes, sunrises, sunsets and night photos than I could have ever imagined. Each page can contain multiple photos if they are shrunken down, etc. Take a look at the concept at printerpix.com. As always, thanks for your CC.

How about one page for each of the countries you've visited.
I would pick my 20 favorite shots and show case them on a single page. At the most 2 shots per page, but I think you will like the book better with one per page.
Are you going to include a narrative along with your pictures? Makes a difference. Just a thought. DJT

Greg, it won't be easy. I've been getting pics ready for a website to post here on the Hog. It hasn't been easy. I too have lots of sunset/sunrise and have not select even one for my site, you gotta be ruthless.
It's not about quantity, but quality.
Pretent that you are going to pay $500 for each shot in the book.
If you're looking for layout ideas, go to the bookstore and look a picture books. Don't forget about two-page spreads.
Google and study how to hang a show. Best stuff first and last. Weakest in the middle.
Greg, it's not the end of your photographic career, hopefully just one book of many to follow.
Good luck. SS
I agree that you should pick out the photos that are your best AND that mean the most to you, caption them so when you get old you will know where they were taken (lol). Since the book is for yourself it doesn't have to follow any set theme. Pick what you want to look at and what brings you joy and pride when viewed.
Good luck.
Don't forget to give the book a title with your most stunning photo on the front cover.
Off the top of my head...when showing off your work...less is more.
I would put one image per page. The first image would be something either just before sunrise or at sunrise...and the photos would continue, around the world, with the clock ticking. I.e., the center pages would be at mid day and the last half would be afternoon and evening. The final two or three pages would be sunset and night. The exception would be the last page...which could be a "closer" of some sort...something dramatic and perhaps your most meaningful image...
All Great ideas. Thank you all. Mudshark- I love your idea. When the book is complete, I would like to share it with you all somehow.
Thanks again,
Greg
I would say it would depend on what you think you have done the best at photographing or also what you have the most interest in. Say like if you have an interest in birding you could have a ton of different species of birds so then you should choose which species of bird you think you either like the most or which one you think you have gotten the best pictures of. If you have gone on many trips and gotten a lot of sunset photos that could be a topic, or mountain photos, or even family album. It would just be up to you. Even if you have a pet you love that you have cute pictures of. Have fun creating it.

I pick one country for each book. Or pick one subject, ie landscapes, old cars, birds, etc.

Although you can fit several pictures onto one page, avoid the temptation of choosing quantity over quality. When you look at the book years from now, you will want to be impressed by beautiful images, and they can be appreciated best in a larger size.

Hi Greg,
I would suggest looking at the book making websites for ideas.
Try
www.blurb.com one of the sites I have used and been happy with. You can look at all types of books, weddings, travel portfolios etc.
Best of Luck
