While visiting with my daughter in Kernersville, NC today, I saw this duck at a lake in a neighborhood park. I've not found it in my Sibley Field Guide. Do any of you birders know what kind it is?

That's a Punk Rocker Duck....you can tell from the hairdo ! 8-)

It looks like a crested mallard. A genetic mutation.

Here is one that looks like Marilyn Monroe.

This is a type of "crested duck", which is a rather common genetic mutation that originated with the Mallard duck; however, it has found itself occuring in others types of ducks where cross breeding has happened.

From my experience with ducks around public parks it appears to be either a domestic or migratory mallard that has crossed with white and possibly other domestic ducks possibly with some inbreeding thrown in. One time we had ducks on the pond at work and after they inbred for 4 or 5 years the stared getting the punk feather doos that this guy has.
