I usually meter off the sky just above the sunset/sunrise. Then I use my exposure compensation to dial exposure back up to -2 full stops. +1 will over expose and wash out the colors. Try Under exposing your shots and the colors will come flooding thru.

Good information here for me......as I'll soon be experimenting with sunrises from my 10th story, east facing, balcony on the coast of Myrtle Beach...

I was just being a smart ass...at my age I tell friends I follow the sun...when it goes down so do I and when it rises...so do I...Ole Ben Franklin had it right...early to bed, early to rise...etc.
Of course...in my youth...OMG...how many times did I show up for work without ever going to bed??? Seems hard to imagine now...the old German saying something about...too soon we are old...too late we are smart...

Many decades ago I did a nice Kodachrome introduction to a slide show...Started with camera on tripod facing the beach from up in a cliff line on Guam. First slide was black, the next was just a sliver of light below a wall of clouds, then about a dozen or so more shots through the early sunrise. They were shown with two projectors and a dissolve unit and on the screen it was movie like...got rave reviews...

It's funny how some newbys ask a question and don't come back to read and reply for days, weeks, or ever.
