A general notice to the community. A new section has been added, one devoted to the central topic of Post-Processing (PP). I've been slow to get things going, vacation and deadlines at my real job got in the way. But I intend to rectify that!

I invite all with an interest to participate when you have something you want to say about the topic, have a question, or just want to show off your latest clever creation.

I'm the monitor, but I make no claim of expertise. I did propose the creation of the section, because I believe the topic is such a significant one it deserves a place of its own.

I hope to see there!

Jim

I signed up! Do you know that people will have to go the home page, select "all sections" and then scroll down to the PP and then click subscribe? I know the close-up forum monitors actively solicit participation, through PM, and you might need to do that when you see relevant posts in the photo gallery.

I know, I thought long and hard before I asked the admin to set it up. I asked for input in the Main Discussion section a few weeks ago, nearly all the responses were positive. One or two expressed disdain for the idea of adding another section, while a couple complained the forum was already overrun with PP addicts.

But, having said all that, I've noticed most photography forums have similar sections. And I hope that putting some of the chatter about PP in a section out of the Main Discussion will keep it directed at those who share the interest, while not cluttering things up for those that aren't as interested. I really hope it will make things better for everyone.

Thanks. But I don't want to think of this as being for me, or even being 'my' thing. I agree with you - this does have a useful purpose I think.

This section definitely has more purpose than the CloseUp section. Just hope that people don't quit posting the results in the Gallery also so that EVERYONE can easily see the results!

Good point. It might be a good idea to post a little 'how-to' on the subscribe process. Most probably know that already, but some I'm sure have forgotten that little trick.

I'll think about the PM when I see relevant posts. I don't want to suggest that we MUST use the new section for these discussions. So I want to be careful not to offend.

I agree with you, and this was a concern I had when I considered the whole idea. I asked for input in the Main Discussion section a few weeks ago, and nearly all responses were positive. I thought about it for a while before moving ahead with the idea. I came to the conclusion the topic was important enough to many members, and warranted a section of it's own.

That said, I'll try to be sensitive to the general interest of the membership as a whole, and encourage participants to share in the Photo Gallery those images people really want all to see. My goal is to make a positive contribution.

This will be a great section. Not that I'll be able to contribute anything to it, other than just get in the way. I will peek in now and then.
Good Luck. SS

Fantastic idea Jim.

It's always surprised me on UHH at the number of people who seem to think that PP is somehow separate to
the subject of Photography.

Processing is and always has been an integral part of 'picture' taking/making.
I think you will find quite a following for the subject, even if initially perhaps you don't get much input.
It will grow, as readers find its not as scary as they thought and only enhances and lifts their pastime to a whole new level.

Cheers

I think it's a good idea too. To help got it started, all of us responding now should post something in today / this weekend to get the section started off. Of course, I'm walking out the door from some sunrise shots on Lake Michigan, but will be thinking of ideas while I'm out ...
