I think Windows Movie Maker works so well I make music videos with pictures for posting on my YouTube. I download free and paid music from vimeo.com. It also cuts/splices sound. Anything (mainstream)under 30 seconds needs no licence.
For video or video picture mix I have found (Real Player) useful for converting video to mp3 format for the purpose of preserving the time line during transitions from one camera to another. Or for inserting a photo into a video. WMV will allow you to here the original sound and the mp3 at the same time so you can sink them before lowering the video volume to 0

I agree...for a free program very powerful

I use PICTURES TO EXE at present 7.5 but the advantage of this software is once it is purchased you have upgrades for life. ProShow you have to pay for upgrades. The system is really versatile and sophisticated. Slides I am sorry to say are a thing of the past and far to expensive to produce.
Can be found on Winsoft.com site

Proshow Gold and Producer are both excellent, but not for Mac OS.

I was exited to make a wedding slideshow from Lightroom directly from my collection. Disappointed however in the limitations. Need an outside audio editor for more than one song, very few transition options, text editor is lacking.

Can anyone recommend a good slideshow program? I saw from a previous post that Proshow was mentioned.

Pro show gold, very easy to use, just have to play around a little. Imports music really well. There is a trial version, try it, you'll like it.

Lots of tutorials out there too.
I'm always learning about new features.
The thing I like about Producer is the ability to include layers and edit in Photoshop through the program.

I also use ProShow Producer. The founder/pres of the company put out a book called "secrets of Pro Show Experts" that is loaded with tips also.

Here's a link to a sample I show prospective clients if you have 2 1/2 minutes to spare.

I know in Pro Show Producer you can remove the "Pro Show" tag/identifier logo thereby making the show your own. I'm not sure you can do that in the Gold version, I'm sure you can not with the online version.

I've been using Lightroom for quite a few years, and as much as I like that product I have never thought its slide show feature to be particularly good. In fact, the newest version seems to be a step backwards!

Good discussion thread! Thank you for the new ideas!

If you are seeking a simple to use (free) program try Slideshow Creator: http://download.cnet.com/Bolide-Slideshow-Creator/3000-13631_4-75628728.html

If you need to play around with music or commentary try
Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ A free program.

Lots of tutorials available for Audacity on Youtube.

I belong to an Audio Visual Group some of the members used Pro Show and they were very proficient. But they are now changing over to Pictures to exe as it far more advanced. If you use Elements OR Photostory they have not got the features. Another site I use is Beckhamdigital.com.au he is an expert in Pictures to exe and Photoshop and gives tutorials mind you have to pay for them but very worth while.

Proshow producer is my favorite...photoshop elements does a real basic and is easy to use. Also have slide show expressions....it was cheap like $25....but the old version I have will not work with 64 bit windows 7.

The problem I have found with software programs I have tried is that the photos were less sharp than the originals. Even though the software would let you do a number of things, if the photos were not sharp, I was not pleased. I have found that Windows DVD Maker allows you to do a number of different things and it produces sharp, clear photos when transferred to a DVD.

Apples "Key Note" is great. Then Microsoft has Powerpoint. If you want a web based slide shoe - you can convert (export as Flash files) and import both of those as Flash files into almost any web html editor. OR you can use any html editor to create a slide show Dreamweaver or my favorite Freeway Pro (only for the Apple Mac, as of the last time I checked). Google may have some free apps for this as well - I have not searched Google Apps for such - but they have so many apps - I can not believe they would not have one. I know that Apples Key Note and Microsoft will import mp3 or mp4 music files to play along with your slide show. Freeway Pro even allows you to hide the music control panel. Now this example is not a slide show but I could do so if I wanted - but here is an example of my web site with music behind each page - my sons song writing along with a few of mine - enjoy: http://www.dandickensneunoizstudio.com

I have been using photo magix you can also produce video. The learning curve isn't that steep you have a range of options as to the quality of the finished show. Think it's about $70 ish.
