Typical tourist behavior.
And he'll probably try to sue the shoe and tripod manufacturers for making defective products!

I say photoshopped!! His shoes combust from the temp, and he calmly snaps an image??

It takes a period of time before the heat travels to the flesh.

If you take a look at the lighting on his left shoe, either the editor is incredibly talented, or it's real. I vote REAL!

Once lost a Olympus OM-1 and a 135mm lense trying to get a shot of 2 topless female water skiers as the tow boat crashed into our photo barge at an event. We knew they would be very close and there would be dangers, but come on! I think I got the shot but we'll never know. Unless you want to search the western end of Dale Hollow and find everything from 33 years ago! My wife at the time wasn't very sympathetic! Wish I knew why.

Hot enough to burn aluminum but not incinerate a human? But a cool (pun intended) picture anyway!

Looks more like carbon-fibre and it probably has the rubber bumpers on the feet.

Looks to me that the plastic clips are burning, not so much the aluminum.

If that's not Photoshopped, it's an example of irresponsible stupidity. It's lava. Lava is hot. The park rangers tell you that and warn you to act accordingly. I have my doubts about the authenticity of that image. His shoes are on fire? The legs of his tripod are burning? What's he waiting for? Isn't he going to push the shutter button? Self timer, maybe? Come on!

Someone else admits he's done similar stuff.

And the price of a carbon fiber tripod? He doesn't care that it's being destroyed? How soon before the tripod collapses, and his camera starts burning, too? He's not strong enough to hold the camera?

Tunnel vision.
We get similar things at the Grand Canyon.
People just get so mesmerized they don't see the edge.
