Was just wondering if any of you might have run across a tripod collar for a Tamron 70-300mm lens? They don't make one (I called and asked) and I'm sure there must be one out there somewhere that would work. :-) Thanks!

I snooped around (google, ebay) and no, there isn't one out there. You might call B&H and see if they know of any. Several comments I seen think that it's relatively light and has VC, so no collar ????

The Tamron 70-300mm (as well as most 70-300mm lenses) have no accommodation for a tripod collar built onto them.

Thanks everyone. Yes,I know they say it doesn't need a collar, but when it is fully extended on my tripod is sags a bit , so I really think it could use one. (And i have a very nice tripod) Tamron didn't know what size collar it might need and B&H Photo Photo said they had no idea. The online forum I browsed said it might use the Canon 81mm but I have no idea how to figure that.

Even if you did find a collar of the right diameter, where would you mount it? The body has no acceptable wide, flat surface to put one on, let alone grooved recesses to keep it in place.

I have a heavy duty dual camera plate (I don't use it for that) which I use to adjust the center of gravity, so no sag. Works great but is heavy and not as versatile as a collar. Mine is old - from my film camera days - I'm sure they are still made or find a used one.

Here - http://www.ebay.com/itm/221221272532?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_3407wt_1079 - is what will work for you - not cheap though ! Actually, BETTER than a normal tripod mount on a lens.

I have and use regularly the Manfrotto 293 Telephoto mount and it is terrific... Only issue I have is when the battery pack is attached to the camera, the lense angles down, which is not a biggy as this can be offset with the mount. Great for time exposures as it eliminates any chance of wobble. I have been in contact with Manfrotto to revise the front support to be adjustable... But in the meantime I am having a machinist friend of mine make me an adapter.

i think i have an answer for you. go to B&H and type in lens support. check out the manfrotto #293, it has a plate for the camera and you can attatch the tripod plate to the support. i use mine with monster lenses. it supports both the lens and the camera.

Now that is a clever idea. I'm surprised B&H didn't know they sold it.

:-) Everyone here always seems to come up with such workable ideas. I will be looking closer at that Manfrotto lens support, and if I find anything else that will work I will be sure to post it for everyone on the forum to know. Thanks everyone for your interest and input.

Did you ever find a workable solution? I looked closely at this Manfrotto 293 and it appears that the front mount and strap would be positioned in contact with the rotating barrel (I also am using the Tamron 70-300mm lens). I don't see how this could work; maybe someone can enlighten me

You just have to leave the strap loose ......- here is another option - http://www.ebay.com/itm/251625082172?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
