I have a nikon D3100. I have your regular lens 55 mm, I have a AF-S nikkor 18-300 mm and I just bought a wide angle 10-24 my question is should I be thinking about a zoom lens, this fall I am going to 5 national parks out west and next year going to Alaska! What do you think? And if I need a zoom what would you recommend ?

Daisy, what am I missing here? Except for the 55 they are ALL zooms, no?
Maybe you need to reword you query.

You already have zoom lenses with the 18-300 and 10-24. Is the 55mm a prime or is it a kit zoom lens 18-55? I've been to 25 National Parks including two in Alaska with my D90 and the Nikkor 18-200, Nikkor 10-24, and Nikkor 35mm prime. You have your bases covered unless you just want to spend more money. Make sure you have a good polarizer filter for the 10-24 and step-up rings so the polarizer fits on the 18-300 and 55.

Thank you, my 55 is a kit lens but I do really like , it works well, I just didn't know how far away everything would be , especially the wildlife . Thanks for your advise!

There is no 55mm kit lens. Do you mean the 18-55? It's actually a pretty good performer with good light.

Yes, that is it, it came with the camera, I really do like this lens,I wasn't sure if my other two would be a strong enough zoom for where I am going? Tank you

It's advice, not advise.
Now, if you really want to buy a lens, you should probably look at the 2&-300.
It would be noticably sharper than any of your other lenses.

Those three lenses should cover just about anything you would want to shoot on a trip. You don't want to be bogged down carrying too much equipment, especially during hiking. Although a light-weight tripod may come in handy at times.

No, I think I am the one spending too much time here.
This site is supposed to be about photography, not grammar.
I'm sorry I wrote it.
