Neither one of those organisations will do anything or could do anything. Banders are private people and only the landowner can refuse them access. These people have been warned so we'll see what happens. I'll certainly keep an eye on it.

I was horrified when I saw it. I was taken there by a pair of photographers who had discovered the birds in the net. When I said they had been there an hour it could actually be a lot longer. We allowed an hour before we took action.
That's disgusting.
I think the Catbird actually strangled itself. The thread was wrapped so tight I couldn't untie it and it had to be cut but it was too late.
I don't take things like this very well.

You're welcome, Joe, and I didn't see the photos of the banding nightmare when I left my comment. It makes me sick to think of those birds being left to die in the nets, but it makes me grateful for the responsible and dedicated group of folks who band twice per year at Ft Morgan, AL...the Hummer Bird Study Group headed by Bob and Martha Sargent.

I have nothing against banding, Donna but I'm totally against irresponsible people. I'm quite sure the Sargents wouldn't conduct themselves this way.

These are beautiful Joe. We are currently bird-watching in Florida for 3 weeks & love the cardinals, which we've never seen before. We now have some beaut photos - but nowhere near as good as yours. Leave for Oz soon so will have to come back for more another time...

Oh, I knew you didn't, Joe. After watching the Sargents band birds, I assumed all banders cared about birds as much as they do. I guess not.
