Great lens. Steep price. Obviously, you need the speed. If you don't, consider the Canon 17-40mm f/4L.

Can't help you. I have a Sigma 10-20mm f3.5.

Might be worth holding out to see the new sigma lens coming soon (18-35 f/1.8)

I have the lens. I use it regularly for composite backgrounds.
I have an image of pittsburgh at night taken with this lens about a year ago. Image is on the first page of my website at the bottom. Enlarge your browser before you click on the thumbnail. You will get a very large detailed image.

Have it, like it. Does all I ask of it. I keep a "slim" B&W UV filter on it, as I keep a UV on most, simply for protection. The "slim" mount avoids vignetting. It is one of only 3 or 4 I'm taking on a coming trip where, amongst other things, I'll be shooting in-city architecturals and street scenes. You will like its results. You can buy cheaper, can't you can't beat Canon glass ! Enjoy.

That's a very nice lens indeed but on a crop sensor it seems like overkill. Are you planning to move to a full frame camera?

Paula, I looked at the 16-35mkll when I purchased the 17-40.
I tried a 16-35 mkl and it's sharper than the 17-40. I have not used the 16-35 mkll but it's supposed to be considerably sharper than the mkl.
I think it's with the money for anyone wanting a top of the line wide angle zoom.
Look at the reviews on all three at "the digital picture".
Good luck.

This is an excellent wide angle lens which I use with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Excellent definition, if you are after a good wide angle for your Canon, have no worries with this lens.

I have had the 16-35 2.8 for probably close to 15 years now going back to using it with an EOS 1n film body and it is an excellent lens.
My digital bodies have all been crop sensor and it still provides a nice wide sharp image on a crop sensor body.

I mostly just use it for sunsets and storm clouds since I occasionally shoot weather for our local ABC TV News station.

Took this sunset on Sat. evening using the 16-25

Why do you consider it overkill for a crop camera?

It's a good lens...not GREAT but pretty darn good.

For the price; which was astronomical, I didn't think it was worth the cash...I ended up buying a fixed 14mm (Samyang) which was actually sharper wide open than this lens.

People like this lens...but I wasn't incredibly impressed.

I was going to hold off on the full frame - but am getting itchy for an upgrade. I'd like to upgrade by the end of the year.
