I'm obviously a little (probably a lot) older than you and I can assure you that if you told that "greatest generation" that you were screwing them out of their SS they'd be standing on your doorstep. You're quite right they were called the greatest generation for a reason, they honored their word and kept their promises. BTW I am a conservative and because I disagree with you does NOT make me a hypocrite, my god that's arrogant.
PS If you think I'm going to give up my SS while we're giving billions to countries like Egypt and Pakistan you're mistaken.

Nobody said that you will have to give up your Social Security, but there will be adjustments to the program... There is nothing that you or I can do to stop it.... the math speaks for itself and like the trustees said in their report, the sooner those adjustments are made the better the program can be managed, doing nothing leads to a fewer options... Like I said, the younger generations promised you nothing and that is who will be paying my Social Security when the time comes, and they will be asked to pay a larger portion of their earnings into the program than either you or I were asked to pay.... It is also very doubtful that the program will be able to return to them anything like what it returned to you or will return to me... I am not sure what you think that the government promised you other than a check each month in your retirement, I am uncertain where they defined just how much that check would be or how much you would be able to depend on it for support...

I do think that conservatives who call for a balanced budget and expect that they will not be effected by either program cuts or taxes as revenues are adjusted to meet federal expenses are being hypocritical.. yes there should be governmental reform, yes waste and abuse should be eliminated, but budgets will not be balanced by spending alone, revenues will have to be part of the mix.. hopefully in the form of a complete overhaul of the income tax system.... Social Security is operating in the red and has been doing so for the last few years, it will quickly become one of the largest drivers of our debt... Surprisingly so will interest on our public debt, we have no choice but to deal with our fiscal house, the sooner we do so the more thoughtful our approach can be... If we do nothing we will only be making the inevitable worse...

Nobody can stop him because the brain dead liberals in this country thinks he's doing a fantastic job. The lower this country goes into debt, the higher his approval rating. He's not held accountable for anything he does.

The liberals you are referring to are not in favor of the proposed changes. The changes are being made to placate the Republican and Conservatives members of Congress. If you voted for a Republican Representative then you voted for changes to Social Security it is that simple. You are the accountable party if you voted in a Republican candidate...YOU cjkorb are the responsible party...now what are YOU going to do about, huh?

Typical response from someone who doesn't even bother reading the platform before casting a vote. You are so concerned about voting against something you do not understand the what you end up voting for. I feel sorry for you.

You're right. The liberals don't want change, they want to keep spending at an accelerated rate.
The major problem with SS is that nobody took into account the 'baby boom' generation all retiring at once all the while the cookie jar (SS account line) was raided for things other than SS payments. So you had a huge amount of people collecting and not so many paying in.
SS and Medicare needs to be changed to keep up with the demand.

You mean the one where Obama proposed a 100 billion dollar cut for social security benefits...either that or pay higher taxes?

You realize of course the money you paid into social security was used to pay for your parents social security and that the program is an intergenerational one.

So, you did not pay in to cover your benefit but that of your parents.

You really have to read up before you speak. Right now you are speaking nonsense.

When we stop giving tax dollars to foreign governments, when we stop giving free rides to illegal aliens, when we stop giving universities crazy amounts of money for silly research, when we stop spending millions for elaborate congressional excursions and on and on then and only then will I be willing to discuss cutting SS.

Another factor to consider is that life expectancy is radically different between the upper income groups and those on the bottom rungs. For men it's as much as 14 years and for women about 10 years.

Statistically, as a group, the bottom 20% don't live long enough to enjoy much of their retirement benefits.
