Considering what they charge for ink, it might be cheaper to bring someone in to paint the scene. :D

Jerry, it in not how much the ink costs for a full set, it is how long it lasts - how many prints one can make from that set and it is a LOT! Believe me, the cost per print is very reasonable.

Red Rive Paper conducted a study of print costs and determined the 3880 ink cost for an 8x10 was $0.48 (on lister paper). Add the $.044 for one sheet of 8.5x11 paper and the 8x10 costs less than one dollar. In fact the 3880 cost per print is less than almost any other Epson and is less than ALL the Canon printers tested.

Of course to make it worthwhile, one needs to print regularly.

While it is true that Epson Inks are expensive, you must realize that the larger printers take larger cartridges that get cheaper by the ml. Ink for my 3880 does cost about $600- but I get a lot of prints for that price and they are larger than 8X12. When I use a larger printer at a local art school, prices drop dramatically for Epson ink.

Epsons inks are never cheap. And the 3880 is only a 17" wide printer, 17x22 it its largest size, but it will run panoramas on roll paper.

MT Shooter, I have an Epson 3880 and printing on roll paper is the one thing it WON"T do! If you have a way to do it, I would really appreciate knowing about it. Other than that, it is a magnificent printer.

I also have an Epson 2200 and it does great on roll paper.

I know the 2880 and the 4880 both take roll paper, had no idea the 3880 did not offer roll printing as well. That doesn't make much sense to me, why take away that feature on one model of the series?

Not all, but some of the Office Max (or is it Office Depot?) have oversized HP printers in some of their stores. You can send them your files online, they'll print to your size, and mail them back to you. PS 4 and 5 have the added feature of the user being able to stitch panorams together. Office Max (at least in Omaha) has the staff and equipment capabilities to stitch panos together _for_ you, so you don't have to have the equipment and software yourself. If you'd like, I can find their phone number, because, as I said, not all stores can provide this service.

Are there any websites/businesses that you folks on here that know lots about photography that would be able to take prints and make wall murals or posters of them? I have a Canon 50D and 60D; use the max resolution, so I'm assuming end quality wouldn't suffer in that regard. My Spousal Unit has an ongoing building of a train set in a room upstairs. The wall is crappy and he'd like to have some type of scenery on the wall. Anything he'd choose would have to be mounted on plywood, or some kind of hanging contraption, as the plaster is junk. And I am NOT gonna bust it all off and re-plaster. The job would cost more than this crummy old farmhouse is worth. So, I got the idea of using some photos I have taken for getting a background made. I have NO clue as to where to look, or who would be reputable.

Thanks. Am thinking a couple of my Africa pix would look good wall-sized.

And I forgot to add that they can do posters up to 5 foot wide.....and the length to be determined.

I agree. The roll paper thing is unusual. There must be a reason that is not evident. I still like it, however.

Staples does excellent large prints, 16x20 for $5.95. They are much more consistent in getting the color and the right exposer in their printing than Costco has been lately
