Within a matter of days I should receive a D7100 from B & H. I own A D90 with a n 18-70 zoom that gives me perfect results with the 12 meg sensor. Just wondering if anyone in the group could suggest an affordable lens for the D7100's 24 meg sensor that would not require post process sharpening.
Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 (not cheap $2,000) not sure what you mean by affordable...if you just won the lottery, are a US congress man, wall street banker ...it's affordable :) Sigma I believe has an equivalent for about $1,200. MT night chime in on this..
Thank's for your reply but $2000 is way out there for me. Camera will arrive at B&H today so I won't see it for a few days. That sure is a beautiful kid in your arms. More enjoyable than any camera ever made I'm sure.
Your welcome & thanks...now he has a little brother, (time to update my avatar) I spend all my free time with them. The sons I never had, not that I'm complaining with two fabulous daughters.
Enjoy the 7100...thinking of picking one up myself... B&H is a 30 minute minute ride for me (barring traffic)...very tempting.
I just noticed you seem to be into Jazz...do you know Van Manakas?
Unknown to me. I grew up listening to Stan Getz, Charlie Parker, Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Warne Marsh, etc.. During the transition from swing to Bebop. The names above are pretty much unknown to the general public; Stan Getz probably best known for his bossa nova recordings.

Jazzer - an "everyday use" lens in the UK for my own personal style needs to be "wide-ish" rather than have a long reach. So I opted for this Sigma lens -

Zoot Sims sounds familiar, Yeah Van, (my wife's cousin)went to and eventually taught at Berkley, well know in NYC area, has a slew of CD's out. Some a bit over the top for my listening...but a great musician. He also backed up some big names over the years. I experienced hearing him teach himself the steel pedal and fiddle in a weekend to replace a country player for a concert...He also help (can't recall the name) a popular Jazz player from Northwest who was in a horrific car accident, Van re-taught him to play guitar after all others thought he would never play again. Talk about off on a tangent from a walk around lens....sorry.
Craggycrossers, thank's for the info on the Sigma. In a good price range too.

Thanks my friend - that lens and my camera just seem to be a "match made in photographic heaven"!

A Morris Minor police car????
I have a 17-55 Nikon and love it for DX cameras.
Got it before Sigma made the 17-50.
I have heard good things about the Sigma.
Lower price, lighter, optical stabilization ( the Nikon does not)

Hi
I bought myself a Tamron 18-270mm zoom for Christmas. Awesome lens with excellent results. Fantastic range - wide angle to equivalent 460mm on my Canon 550D.
Image stabilisation is out this world - I have acceptably hand held to 1/15th second at night. Make sure you get the IS lens though.
Cheap, I imported from Hong Kong for approx £330 sterling.
Best Regards!

Yep - a Morris Minor police car - from the days when roads were smaller and narrower, thieves couldn't get away so fast, and the only other option for the "bobbies" was their bike !
Really love this lens - and strongly recommend it. And for those Nikon owners with a D3000/D5000 series camera it has its own focus motor (HSM designation from Sigma).

My family had a Morris in Newfoundland when I was born.
Needless to say, I don't remember it.
