Any Hogs have this lens and what do you like/dislike about it. I have a Canon 5Dm2 ?
I'm not familiar with the camera, but the lens is .... Way Cool !!! :P
I use this lens when too close for my 70-200.
I have the same combination.
I don't know if I can fault it.
Trying to think of something I don't like about it but really struggling.
Really clutching straws here but - it might be nice if it was 16mm at the wide end.
I use it as a landscape lens mainly from 17-20mm.

Thanks Lighthouse. I'm really leaning toward this lens.

This is a serious lens.
You don't 'lean' toward it. You either fall all in or wish you had. hehehehe
I use the same combination. It would be nice if it was a little faster, but since I use it mainly for landscapes, that's a non-issue. Great lens.

I use this lens with my Canon 7D as a "walk around." I like to take candids of friends, relatives and events. But with this lens, I can also capture an occasional landscape whenever my vision of the surroundings create the urge. The 7D has a 1.6 crop, which I keep in mind. I shoot in RAW. In my opinion, this is a sensational lens-- tack sharp images, great depth of field control, versatile. A bit heavy and bulky, as L lenses tend to be, but rock solid construction and operation.
This is a superb landscape lens with a long pedigree - wide angle on my 5D Mk II and can be used as a standard lens on my crop sensor 40D. No image stabilisation function as on later lenses, but since I mainly use this on the tripod this is not an issue for me. In normal daylight conditions hand holding is no problem anyway.
Get it - they don't come much better than this!
It's a good lens that shoots well with the 5d Mark II. I also have the 10-22 which is a wide lens and my first choice between the two. However the 10-22 has its' limits on which camera to use.The 17-40 should provide you with some excellent quality photos.
if it's canon it's a good lens. unless you shoot indoors alot,f 4.0 should be ok.
EDIT: I just realized you have FF camera, the Tamron will not work on FF
Canon 17-40mm f/4 L @ 700.00
Tamron 17-50 /2.8 VC @ 350.00 with IS
From what I've read, there is not much difference.

Saint, I use the same combination. For a 17 it's inexpensive. It's a good daytime lens and does a good job outdoors. It's too slow for inside or at night except on a tripod. For walk-around I use the 24-105 since the 17 is just too short for most walk-around. When I'm out I almost always have the 17 with me though, since it's a bit wider. I don't think it's as sharp as my 24-105 and if I had the cash would trade it in on the 16-35 in a heartbeat.
For the price and performance, you will NOT be dissapointed.
It's an L lens and very inexpensive. I bought mine as a refurb on Canons site.
Edit: it is one of the few lenses with a gel holder in the back, which has proved usefull to me at times.
