My wife and I will be attending a wedding in Flagstaff in August and decided to make a week out of it. Our thought is to go a week earlier and spend a couple of days around the southern rim GC. Any suggestions on lodging and sites to see would be greatly appreciated.

Head down south to Oak Creek and Sedona, great spots and not too far from Flagstaff.

Especially Sedona! Or how about a visit to the Havasupai village? Or a helicopter tour over the canyon?

While there you must find some time to visit Walnut Canyon National Monument. It is only about 15min south of Flagstaff off of I-40, get there early and you may have the park to yourselves for a few hours. Walk the Island trail and step through time as you step into cliff dwellings built by the Sinagua peoples between 1125 and 1250 AD. It is truly a wonder to behold.

Go to this site and stay in the Park as the lines to get in will be very long in August

Fluff up your "Aura" if spending much time in Sedona, and try to get to a couple of the "vortex" canyons surrounding the area. Walk the trails and soak up the energy.

Try to visit the Skywalk, a little expensive but worth the money and you'll have to drive up a dirt road, about 13 miles. Only thing is that they don't allow cameras or cell phones, they'll take photos for you....for a fee.
