I have the wireless Shutterboss for my 7D and I don't find the instructions that hard to understand. I don't use it for time laps images; I just use it for remote shutter when doing long exposures and self portraits.

To understand the ShutterBoss, you need to make sure you're clear in your own mind as to what you want to do, since the SB can adjust four different things:
1) LENGTH of a single exposure
2) NUMBER of exposures
3) INTERVAL between exposures
4) DELAY before it starts taking the first shot.

If you want to take 35 1/50th second shots, with 1 second between each one, that's different from taking 35 shots one second apart at varying shutter speeds that depend on aperture or whatever. The first option is explained under SHUTTER CONTROL - Continuous Shooting, where as the other choices are explained under TIMER CONTROLS, a few pages on in the instruction book.

The basic difference is that SHUTTER control lets you set, on the camera, shutter speed and aperture both.

The timer controls let you set the shutter, but only in increments of, and longer than, 1 second. So you can take a bunch of 1 second exposures, or a bunch of 45 second exposures, or even a bunch of 99 hour 59minutes and 59 second exposures (useful for glaciers and granite erosion...)

Another hint - take the battery out of the RECEIVER piece - that's normally in the hot shoe - when you're not using it. The hand-held transmitter battery shuts off automatically after a while, but it's easy to leave the receiver on, or have the power button get accidentally pressed by something.
