About user:
Occupaion: photojournalist, mostly retired Interests: Literature, fly fishing, documentation of the human condition Biography: Yea, I'm an old-school shooter, got my start working for a newspaper in 1980. Newspapers were B&W, you spent hours in the darkroom every day. There was one film: Tri-X. If you needed something faster you pushed it in development. It was soon after that papers went to color, first it was Ektachrome and we did our own color separations...

At newspapers you get a lot of calls from magazines when they need art from your area. If you did a good job, they would call again, even ad companies would call the local papers looking for shots and, of course you were required to shoot for AP, being the paper was a member. The last paper I worked for, 1995, started going digital for pre-press, meaning we would shoot film and scan it for digital layout.

I shot occasional jobs for five years, bought a restaurant and worked at that. I worked at a studio that did advertising photos. I really liked working in the studio even shooting things like shoes, electronics and seasonal stuff. Location work was cool, models, music people, etc.

I got my first DSLR, Nikon D-70, in about 2004-5, I disremember exactly, then shot as a stringer for local rags while teaching full-time. I sold all my old gear, 5 Nikon FM-2s and a bevy of Nikkor prime lenses, slowest lens was 2.8. Damn shame.

Quit teaching, Got a D-7000 and wished I had those lenses back, got a second family, Now I'm trying to find some photo work, maybe as a stringer again or slow it down and shoot landscapes, who knows? Is this too long?
What's that signature box all about? Website: not set
