If you rely entirely on AUTO mode, you are allowing the default algorithms to create your photo. That means average exposure and metering. The result too often is an average photo. Why not learn the exposure controls and use them on location to make a more creative and interesting photo? I don't want to spend endless hours manipulating images in Photoshop or Lightroom. I think you'll enjoy a little more satisfaction in your photography.
