If you shoot Nikon, their NX-D software is very capable. I use it almost exclusively.

Olympus makes an amazing little camera that takes incredible quality pictures.
I don't have one, my friend does and one day will get one to carry more easily than my full size Nikon.
It is a lot of camera for $500; Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm II R Lens

I've only been shooting IR since August. I followed the advice of others with years of IR experience by taking a picture of green grass and using it to set the White Balance.
#3 is the color that results from that WB and without using the 950 filter.
#2 is like #3, but changed to b&w and then, added a single color.
#1 & #4 had colors selectively shifted using Nikon's NX-D software which is usually all I use. #1 had the 950, so there are many fewer colors and ability to shift colors.

Like any new photo endeavor, there's always more to learn! And IR is very different.

1. the difference is not 1/2 a stop, it is 3/4 of a stop!
2. do you want super sharp pictures or do you want to create artful pictures? the more elements (for sharpness) the more light will be lost (color and contrast in the shadows)
3. why would anyone want to stay with DX cameras? a pixel is not a pixel. comparing when all other aspects beiing equal, bigger pixels are better than smaller pixels. unless money is the obstacle, get a FX lens. spending more on a faster DX instead of a FX does not seem like a good idea, long term.
4. perspective is where you stand. the sensor size just effects the field of view, not the focal length. All 6 of these were taken from the same spot in the store:

Ken, prior to buying the 950, I used a polarizer AND a half neutral density graduated filter. The stacked filters were a hassle and created vignetting and the 950 darkens the sky better, but you can't see through it. Next time (=$?), I'll have a camera converted with a 950 IR pass filter. Alternately, unlike my D200, a newer camera converted to 720nm or full spectrum would allow you to see while shooting with live view through a 950. I'll call later today.

I forget that folks buy DX lenses as they do not provide an upward path to FX.
Women often want lightweight cameras, but camera weight provides stability.

Since the D3200 won't focus D series lenses, he needs to buy G series.

I'd go cheap with a DX 1.8. If spending more, go FX.

BTW, no need to buy new.

how much can you spend on millimeters and megapixels? The Tamron 150-600 is incredible for the price when you don't need superfast autofocus. 24mp will let you crop out most of the shot and still have enough for a 5x7. so if you're not printing posters, crop before you spend outrageous sums on long glass!

"creepy"; That's why I generally shoot just one, infrequently a second.
People in public know they might be in photographs, so a shot or two won't be a problem.
Sometimes they will ask you about your photographs. Respond about your artistic hobby and they will often be appreciative and supportive.

Most women like the flattery. Most men don't care.
Try asking a pretty woman; they light up as they say yes, which can be captured if you're quick (see below).

After many dozens of candids, I've only had one get upset. With skin tight clothing on an athletic figure, she should expect attention. Some people stay angry, but you should see it before aiming your camera. In reflection, she had an apparent attitude that I ignored.
If you happen to trigger someone, just smile, apologize and walk away. It's very unlikely except in cultures where they believe that cameras can take your soul like the Carribean!

Many of these are candid: https://www.flickr.com/photos/bgeorgeday/albums/72157664888432216
